View Full Version : When do you call it quits?

On a layout, I mean. Not like on your marriage or your job, fyi.
I've been working with this page for about an hour, and it just isn't making me happy. I hate to quit on something I've invested in, but it's just making my head hurt to keep working on it.
So let's make a poll of it, if I can figure out how to do it. Do you delete a layout that you can't make work or do you trudge through it to the finish line?

Since I'm obviously avoiding, I'm just gonna add that I HATE starting a layout with pictures and not knowing what kit I'm goign to use. I would much rather find pictures to fit a kit than the other way around.

If it's a CT layout... I just keep trashing it and rebuilding until I get one I'm happy with. Non-ct... a week.

I think I've only ever deleted a page once... that doesn't count the times my PS has locked up and I didn't save what I was working on! :cursing:

It depends on my level of hatred and whether it is a CT page or not.
If it's semi-heinous AND a CT page, I will save and tuck it away for a day or two. I will keep the 'bare bones,' but perhaps redo the composition, number of photos, etc.
If it's semi-heinous but NOT a CT page, I will happily delete its sorry behind and empty the Recycle Bin, too.
If it's heinous AND a CT page, I will do my best, but I might *gasp* cheat and just make a filler page that I don't intend to keep in my personal album.
If it's heinous but NOT a CT page, I will delete, empty, eat some chocolate, watch some TLC/HGTV/FN, chat on Y!M, and generally forget that I even started a page to begin with. :p
*lol* Specific enough? I am a gal of details. :)

I vote yes but it's usually after more then 1/2 hour. I ususally close it and forget about it for a day or two and then I open it back up and if I still hate it I trash it!!! I've been know to leave half finished pages for weeks even!!!

There are a lot of times I find a layout's not working for me and it helps to just walk away for an hour or so. Usually when I come back with fresh eyes, it either looks better or I'm able to rearrange things to make it look the way I want.

Many of my favorite LOs didn't start the way they ended. I usually just keep on plugging away at it.

I said no, but none of the choices really fit. I spend way too long in the early stages of every LO, picking pictures and kit, deciding on my design or what template to use. In that stage I sometimes trash and start over. But once I've gotten going, it's rare for me to trash it. I'm more likely to put it away for a day or so and then try again. If I truly hate it and feel like starting over would be faster than making it work (rare for me, since I'm such a slow scrapper) I'll start again.

I usually walk away, then come back to it later. Giving myself that time/space away from it usually puts it in better perspective for me.
I usually give it a day or 2 (often leaving it as it is and then coming back to it the next day). If after 2 days it's still not working for me I just quit. Probably just leaving it on my hard drive for ages LOL Unfortunately this happens to me a lot lately

I try to keep plugging-it is my goal to never have more than 3 LO's in progress at any one time-I'm sure your LO is great BTW.

depends for me too. if it's a CT layout, i usually walk away and come back after a couple hours. if it's something i'm just working bc i want to, i've been known to get rid of everything (minus photos) and start over in a fit of rage. :glare:

I shut it down & walk away for awhile & then when I come back I consider what isn't working for me & start making changes, adding things, hiding things, moving things around, swapping out photos & then swapping out kits (if not a CT layout). If I still hate it or I have to use the kit I just delete it and start over with new photos.

I've only created a handful of LO's I just didn't like. The ones I can remember, I was trying to use some bright colors and they just turned out garish!! If I don't really like it, I start over again. But then again...I just scrap for myself and not for a CT!

I have a folder with about 10 unfinished layouts. Sometimes the right kit hasn't come along, sometimes I run out of time and forget about it, sometimes it just isn't working for me so I will visit again later.
I never trash the layout but will save it to rework later.

I HATE deleting pages, so I'll close PS for a while and watch TV or listen to music, then go back to it and rearrange things or delete and add things to it, and it usually comes together after that!

I'm pretty stubborn so I tend to just push thru and keep moving things around until I get a page that works for me. But if I'm having a really really hard time, I'll rename the file with a _v2 at the end of it and start deleting major things or sometimes starting from scratch. Once I get a page I like, I'll delete the original version. I only work on one page at a time though so I never have unfinished layouts just sitting around waiting to be worked on.

none of the answers really fit. I will trash a layout if it really does not work for me but that is usually after quite awhile of trying
