I second Ikea. These are pictures of my craft room - I did a lot of my shopping at Ikea when I was setting it up. There are other ideas in this thread (https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45077) that I started a while ago. It was more about decoration than organization, but there are some organization ideas, too.

i have revamped and pared down since these photos were taken and the room is painted a nice soothing light grey. i'll be taking photos once i finish with hanging artwork and finding a little loveseat or something.

over on two peas there is a category for craft rooms...

I created my own version of Pottery Barn's Bedford Project Table (http://www.potterybarn.com/products/bedford-project-table-set/?pkey=cbedford-home-office) using a desktop from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49852135), and the cubed organization sets you can find a Michaels/Target/Joann's/etc. 4 cubes at each end make up the base, and I have 2 on top of the desktop at one end. That's my craft desk. (Like these, (http://www.target.com/Modular-Cube-Storage-System-White/dp/B000O7OTIS/ref=br_1_12?ie=UTF8&id=Modular%20Cube%20Storage%20System%20White&node=294135011&searchSize=150&searchView=grid5&searchPage=1&sr=1-12&qid=1292796407&rh=&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_ primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1) but the craft versions - they have drawers, or shelves for paper, or just shelves, etc. I slowly bought mine using 40% off coupons at Michael's, or when they were on sale for 50% off.)

I also have this Ikea desk (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30103676) that has my laptop, printer, EHD's, etc. We're going to build a sort of mini hutch/shelf to go on top of it as Hubby won a sweet monitor at a conference a while a back, and it's going to be mine (once we build the shelf for it to sit on).

Over the summer I bought a gorgeous armoire that now holds a LOT of my stash. I painted it white, and the drawers have a gorgeous teal color inside them. I still haven't finished the doors for it, lol.

I knew someone was gonna ask that, LOL! I'll snap some pics and see if I can get them up soon (I can take them, but I'm pretty much THE WORST EVER at editing and posting photos, lol!). I actually did a whole bunch of organizing last weekend, so it's semi-neat too.

I just found out we're having our new front door installed tomorrow, so I won't be going into work. So I'll take pictures and post tomorrow :)

*sigh* I love that pottery barn desk... if only money wasn't a problem... :)

Also another thing to throw out there for organization are those three drawer wheeled carts you can get at Target and the like. I have 3... one holds my stamping stuff, another all my scrap papers, and the third has my most used tools and fav establishments. They are nice that can be wheeled around and then slide under my large L-shapped desk (which I got at my local ReStore place for dirt cheap)... one of the carts has a really nice wood top that helps give me another small work space... I keep my paper cutter on there when scrapping... I'm always losing track of that thing! LOL!

That's why I made my own Rebecca! :)

I'm editing the photos now. Adding notes and arrows to them to show what I have stored where. :) Had to bust out the old school 18-55 to get the shots, LOL!

I don't know if you have a JoAnn's Craft and Fabric where you are but I was just there and they had a BUNCH of totes/organizers that would be awesome for a scrap room on CLEARANCE!! If you have one of those stores near by it might not be a bad idea to stop by and take a peak at what they have! Have fun redecorating!! :)

Ok. Here goes, LOL!
Here's the overall view of the space from the door. Our master bedroom is 29x12, so the bed is on the opposite side of the room from the scrap space (scrap space at the back, bed at the front).

The armoire sits on the wall opposite the "laptop desk", to the left of the windows you see above. I'm still working on organizing the armoire and getting it to work the best for me. One of the doors has cork board in the insets, and the other will probably get the chalkboard paint treatment. I need to reprime/repaint some of the drawer fronts, as some of the knots are showing through. I could have sworn I did that, but apparently not. Live and learn right? This is the first piece of furniture I ever refinished and I ADORE it. Totally have the bug to do more.

A look at the space from the opposite side. For teh end of the table farthest from the wall, the bottom 2 units have more paper storage (in a vertical orientation). All my precious stuff fits in there (treasured Basic Grey collections, some crate paper, cosmo cricket, etc - stuff I hoarded when I was a paper scrapper and still haven't figured out what project to use for, lol). There are some fabric bins that hold randomness like Papertrey ribbons, embroidery floss, bind-it-all coils, etc. Lots of randomness scattered about that I'll eventually pull out and organize.

And the view of the "laptop desk". The pens and pencils there are stored on a cheapie wine rack. I found tall glass cylinder vases at Michael's and they work PERFECT. The heavy duty scissors are in a white glass I found at Ikea an loved, lol. The tool caddy is from PB and was a wedding present. It holds my smaller scissors, rub-on tools, glue pens, staplers, exacto's/kraft knives, and non-stick kraft mats (those things are AWESOME, I loved mine so much I bought a second one, lol). Behind the tool caddy is an empty pint paint can from HD that I put all my paint brushes in (trays are in the drawer with the paints). There's a red bowl next to the tool caddy in the photos. That holds random little bits of things for hybrid projects. I cut them out and store them in there so they don't get lost. I have lots of bowls and baskets floating around for that purpose, lol.

Seeing these photos now, I realize some of it might be hard to read. (I automatically resized to 600pixels, without thinking of the text size, lol.) Just ask if there's anything that isn't clear. :)

Hey Col, where did you get your 1tb EHD? I need a new one.

ColleenSwerb
12-20-2010, 07:46 PM
Um, I'm not sure Paula, I bought it like a year and a half ago. Both the 1TB and the 2TB are Western Digital drives. The 2TB is new, from Target on Black Friday. The 1TB I definitely ordered online. Possibly from NewEgg?

I feel ya, I have 3 again now. 1 stays at work in case of catastrophe at home (knock on wood). I need a new flash drive because my hubby keeps stealing mine! Lol!

That must be written in the hubby's manual! I have three flash drives and my hubs has them all at his office. LOL

haha Col, I love the comments on your photos. :D

I don't have photos of my room but I have a desk that I put together based on this photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/laura81/3003092962/in/faves-joyfullova/) of an Ikea showroom I found on flickr. That user has some other cool craft room inspiration photos in their photostream too.

It's two kitchen cabinets back to back and then a desktop on top. I didn't attach mine to the wall so I have the cabinets side against the wall and then legs on the other side that faces out into the room. I like it because it's usable from both sides so I have my scrap stuff on one side and my sewing stuff on the other.
