this is the first year that madelyn has really been into santa. she's obsessed with all the 'prilly' lights, she is constantly asking me if she slept good at night so santa will come see her, so it's really important to me that we really play up the santa thing this year.
last night was emma's christmas program, and when everyone was done singing and playing, santa came in for all the kids to see. madelyn gasped when he came in, went RUNNING up to him and asked if he had her ballerina. ummm...ballerina? what is this ballerina you speak of?
we had gone to target one day with my mom and my mom had given her this angelina ballerina doll and she apparently wanted it worse than i thought. so, today, i have DH on a wild goose chase looking for this doll. the ONE thing i didn't buy her. i looked online and of course there's nothing like it online at Target. TOTALLY kicking myself now for not just picking it up that day.
i have to work today so i'm realllly hoping DH finds the doll for me. poor baby can't not have her santa present! *sigh*

Amazon has Angelina dolls. We used to have one of the American Girl Angelina dolls... it was a Santa gift for my youngest. I really hope you find yours!

Oh I totally feel for ya...my son all of a sudden decided to add a drum set to the list of things he "REALLY wants". DH already said no on a real one so I'm going out tomorrow to get one of the Paper Jams ones.
I hope your hubby can find the ballerina!!!

I hope he finds it...thank goodness my kids lists are not too long...the older they get I swear they get 3x more expensive..plus it didn't matter what my DD had on her list a laptop TRUMPS anything else...so she doesn't have alot under the tree, but I figure she will be ok with that!:p

We're going to see Santa at dh's work today and this morning Kathryn asked me what she should ask him for. Hmm... definitely a little late for that!! And Hannah keeps saying she'll tell Santa what she wants, but then I say "tell us what you want, we don't know what to get you either!" and she just says she'll tell Santa (which I doubt she will anyway because she's so shy).

My rule is, once the Santa letter is written, they don't get to change their mind. And I make sure they are done before Dec 1st :)
I learned my lesson the hard way LOL

Awwww.. Hope he can find it.
I know how you feel...Santa's on a failing mission here this year.
Anna's only request this year, the year she knows what Santa is about & is super excited about it, the ONLY thing....""a 'worsey' with reins & them things a'put mine seet in, an' I can ride all by mine selfs""

Oh! I hope you or your DH can find it!
My son keeps asking for more lego sets, which he has soooo many of. I got him a couple of small sets for his stocking, so I'm hoping he's fine with those. I don't want to buy anymore of the huge sets, and I'm finished Christmas shopping for him.

Ugh, I too hope he finds one... and come back in one piece after battling the crowds. ;)
Shannon - I'm too waiting for the bulk of kiddo's gifts... I ordered them over 2 week ago on Amazon and off course I refuse to pay for shipping... so they are going snail pace... and the arrival date is the 24th!!!! YIKES!!!
And... if that isn't enough sweating... the ONE AND GIFT that my kiddo asked for, James the Train... which I did get... now I can't find where I put it in the house! :cursing:

You should have seen the list that just came out in the newspaper in my Kindergartner's Santa letter! I swear the child hasn't told me ONE thing that she wants and then we see this letter in the paper and there are about 100 random things on there! Including, but not limited to: makeup, scissors (WTF?), a vest, a Zhu Zhu pet mansion, clothes and lots lots more. Good grief.

I tell my kids that Santa doesn't always give them everything that they want since he has so many kids to take care of. But it is still good to wish and want for things! They are very used to hearing me say this. And then I call my parents to tell them what they need to buy for the kids. They always need gift ideas. ;)
I hope you find the Angelina Ballerina doll! The first Christmas that they are aware is very fun!

Same here.
Although yesterday Lance said he wanted donuts from Santa.
Garrett asked for a magic kit and we kinda blew him off because we knew it would not be something he would stay interested in. But he has been persistent and moved the magic kit up to the top 3 gifts he wants. So Santa found on online and the shipping was almost as much as the kit. Gah!

i think that's what's going to happen here amanda. i just checked the TRU online around here and no one has them :(
if it were emma, i could prob get away with telling her that it's ok to wish and not always get stuffs, but, i just feel horrible since this is the first year that it's been so special to her.
i'm a total sucker btw

When my brother was 3 or 4 all he wanted for Christmas was Ernie from Sesame Street. This was way before the internet shopping days and we live in a very small place so finding an ernie was extreemly difficult. My mother worked on it for weeks and weeks and finally got her sister in another province to get one and send it in the mail for Santa. It was a pretty cool life sized soft Ernie. My mother was sooo proud that Santa would be the best ever that year for him. So forward to Christmas morning and my brother gets up and spies Ernie and then keeps looking and looking around the tree and he is getting more and more upset. My mother asks him whats wrong? All he kept saying was "Bert's lost" Never once had he mentioned Bert but I guess in his mind they came as a pair! After her big find with Ernie, my mother still felt like a christmas failure! LOL! I think no matter what we have as Mom/santa we never get it all!

Donuts..haha. I love that one.
When she was 3, my DD went to sit on Santa's lap and asked for a "bouncing piggy". We had no idea what that even was!

I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be able to find one, Laura!
Check out this list that my son came up with (he is 3 btw..)
1. a baby rattlesnake
2. a REAL white swimming horse
3. a baby brother
Ya! That is what he wants. Not quite sure what to do here... ha ha! We told him Santa couldn't bring anything "alive" this year. Hopefully he is not TRULY disappointed Christmas Morning??

Oh, goodness there are some cute stories in this thread. I hope Angelina gets found today. My child asked for Thomas trains again, so I again had to order them cause the stores never carry the obscure ones he seems to want.

We also do the 3 gift rule from Santa. So it has to be 3 things they REALLY want, and they can't be huge like play kitchens or anything, poor Santa can't carry that on his sleigh LOL.
Whatever else they get is from us. My kids really think hard before they make their decisions. I spent a fortune getting Benjamin the Harry Potter Hogwarts castle that he wanted. :s

We're at the point where the girls are starting to say, "Well no, I don't want that anymore"....I have to say, "oh but that would be so much fun! I know you still want it!" when what I want to say is, "too bad sista, that's been bought for months now!"

Oh I hope you find it...My son has changed his list so many times...We actually went into Target and he picked out stuff that wasn't on his list and for the life of me I can't remember...I've had the talk that Santa can't bring you everything you ask for because he has to give gifts to the other children...That's my story and I'm sticking to it when he asks about something he didn't get!

My daughter's list went something like this...
1. DSi
2. Laptop
3. Cell phone
4. puppy
5. Ipod touch
She'll be 9 in January and we can't have pets soooo basically she's getting the DSi from Santa and that's it! LOL I think this will be her last year to believe...she's pretty slick. Told me that her and Santa have secrets and she asked for stuff she isn't telling anyone except Santa. Can't wait to see how this turns out!
Hope you find the ballerina doll! I can so relate to running around looking for last minute Santa gifts. Good luck!

We do a 2 gift rule since there are 2 of them. The other stuffs they get are from us. Emma's had hers picked out FOREVER (thank god) and Madelyn had asked for stuff in passing so i got her what i thought she'd like. Apparently she thought otherwise :/ this kid drives me insane LOL I didn't do letters this year...but from here on out we are. Emma did one at school, but I didn't even think to do it with Madelyn since she was still (i thought) too little.
i'm TOTALLY going with your thing next year Jamie. Once it's in the letter, all bets are off. LOL
They really do get told that Santa can't bring everything you ask for (because they really would ask for EVERYTHING), i just felt bad because that's all she's been talking about for like 3 days now....and i mean all LOL
and yes, i ordered it from Amazon. Thank God for Amazon Prime!

My folks had the letter rule. It had to be written by Dec 6th when St Nick came to take it to Santa & left us candy in exchange for it. After that you couldn't change your list.
I had to start that with my kids last yea but they don't get it. DS1 yesterday out of the blue started asking for Kung Zhu stuff. Sorry kid, your presents have been purchased. Maybe Santa will leave you some cash toward their purchase

So my 1st grader son saw Santa yesterday at school. He told me on the way home that he asked Santa for a DSi. He hasn't told us, previously, that he wants this. So I asked him what Santa said about it. He said "Santa said it would be under the tree." WHAT!?!?!? What kind of Santa would do this to parents??!!
I just told him that I didn't think Santa would give things to children that their parents really didn't want them to have. My hubby is really not into gaming systems, so would not approve of Santa bringing this present to my son! Hope my son will be okay with that answer and with the things he does get --- Santa has been finished shopping around here for a couple of weeks!

Santa does 1 wrapped present and 2 things in their stockings. They think I leave a bag of stuff for Santa to put in their stockings and then everything else under the tree is from mommy and daddy.

My 3 year old nephew wouldn't tell my sister anything he wanted to ask Santa for...until yesterday.
He wants an anteater. (he collects little plastic animals). Then he walked in on her looking on the internet (she had found a plastic aardvark). He piped up "That's not an anteater".
She called me this morning asking where I had gotten him other animals. I guess I'll be going out in a bit to look for an anteater. Yikes!

We brought the girls up with the knowledge that just because you want it, you may not get it, and it's not a case of being 'naughty or nice', just a case of being grateful that you have been given a gift...

my girls are always extremely grateful for their gifts. had i not been able to get it for her, she would have been fine. i wanted to make sure she got the one thing she really wanted. santa is a magical thing for a 2 year old and i'd hate to let that magical feeling down when it's something as simple as a little $20 doll.

So at one family party, Santa brings them a present. Each year, I'm scrambling to find something small but something they want. So last year, Santa brought my oldest a lego set he already had. How was I to know what he had and didn't have. I felt really bad. So this year, I drug my hubby to go shopping specifically for this party. We bought them some small cheap toy that I know my 5 yr old mentioned. So the party comes and out of my oldest mouth he says he wants a wallet????? Yes a wallet. So he opens his present and about cries. "This is the stupidest gift I never wanted." Yes, two years in a row I've screwed up. Who would've thought that there is a toy on tv that some kids don't want. I felt great for 2 years now at that party!

My husband strongly believes that Santa does not get the kids the best gifts. Santa is OK, but the best gifts need to come from us because he wants the kids to recognize that their parents are the ones getting the gifts, not some man they've never met. So in the past Santa has gotten them Rock Band for the Wii, or a game for their DS we gave them. Never the actual Wii or the DS. This year they're getting a plush animal and $20 (I have 2 teens that are way past believing and 10 year old still trying to believe). Stocking are always overflowing, though.
We have had to do the mad dash before. Glad things worked out. Are you apart of Amazon's mom club? They have amazon prime benefits with membership and it is free.
My oldest is 8 (almost 9) and this year he came home from school saying that his friends told him that Santa is really "your parents and they leave in the middle of the night to get you presents". I asked him if he thought we would really leave him in the middle of the night to get gifts and he said "no". I said, "Okay then. I will have you know that the only way he will come is if you believe in him." LOL I feel bad that this might be his last year. Hopefully I can help him hold on for a little while longer. I LOVE the magic of Christmas.
