View Full Version : Help! Where can I buy a couple of basic baskets?

I have bought my sons an assortment of "manly" toiletries and would like to put them in a basket to make it look more like a gift. I could of course put them in a shoebox -- but that is kinda tacky.

Where can I get inexpensive baskets? I probably need medium sized. I have 7 or 8 different items to put in it -- but none of them are overly large.

Would a craft store have such? Like Michaels? I seriously HATE to go to Michales. They seem to have the worst customer service here -- and they have pissed me off one too many times. There is an AC Moore (another craft store) here that I can go to. Would they have it? I imagine that Michaels WOULD have them, but I try to avoid going there (and spending any of my money there). Once I get pissed off at a store -- it takes me many years to "forgive" them. :D LOL I am such a nut.

Any other ideas other than a basket to package up these little goodies for my boys? I am at a lost. Altho I may be a designer and have creativity in that respect -- when it comes to stuff like this I can't figure it out. If there is an option other than a basket I would love to hear it.

Essentially I just bought a variety of toiletries for each of them. I bought the Axe brand for my middle son (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shower gel, shower sponge, etc.). For my older son I had to stick with a brand that is specifically meant for extremely sensitive skin. I bought him a nice large assortment of products by Eucerin and some hair products from American Crew that I know he likes.

Thanks for any help! This is one of the last things I need to do in order to wrap up all of the holiday crap. Ugh... I am such a scrooge! LOL

Hugs,
Eva

Michael's or AC Moore would definitely have baskets. But so would Target or Walmart too.

Our Goodwill/Thrift stores always have a ton of baskets for less then a dollar each.

If you are looking for alternatives to a basket, you could put them in a shower caddy or toiletry bag, or cover the shoebox in something 'manly' (like the sports pages from the newspaper) and go ahead and put the stuff in :)

Hobby Lobby usually has a good assortment of baskets - I'm not familiar with AC Moore but I bet they would too. Craft stores are usually good bets for baskets and containers. You could also hit Wal-Mart or somewhere and get a shower caddy or one of those plastic baskets like you'd use in the shower to put it all in. That might be kind of cute in sticking with the toiletries theme. :)

Our dollar store usually has baskets or plastic bins/buckets that would work as well.

you could buy them each a travel toiletries bag to put it in.

Do you have a Big Lots? Ours always has great baskets for pretty good prices. I got a small laundry sized one for $5 there.

Michaels always has the best assortment of baskets in my experience. And they are usually on sale for 40% off. But I do like the idea of getting a toiletry bag to put them in or a shower caddy or something like that.

If you want something that will be used with the toiletries, then go plastic and Walmart or Target would have a shower caddy or bucket. I bought my son a caddy at Walmart for the dorm at the beginning of school for like $5. If you just want something to make it pretty, then a wicker basket at any of the places above.

The dollar store always has the plastic ones that he could keep the stuff in afterwords.

at my local Michaels, I have to go in there with the mindset that they have cashiers and they have stockers, but they don't have anybody for customer service. I never see anyone out helping customers. And if you have questions on a product, you are better off asking another customer. LOL My oldest son knew a guy that worked at Michaels and he wasn't in the least bit crafty... unless you count rolling your own joints as a craft.

A shower caddy is a really good idea. Not sure if all of the products will fit into one of them, but the shampoo, conditioner, and showergel should. They share a shower -- not sure how much room is in there for shower caddys. I try to avoid their bathroom at all costs (who really wants to go into a bathroom shared by 2 teenage boys?). I do make them clean it on a regular basis -- but their version of clean and mine are not the same. :D

I am getting ready to head out for some shopping. Will look at baskets, shower caddies, and plastic holder doohickies. I know they won't fit into a toiletry bag (unless it is huge), but I will have a look-see around town.

Sally, we do have a Big Lots (we have almost every chain you can think of). Maybe I will stop by there and check out what they have. I always find some unusual things when I go to Big Lots. I still need to get hubby a few more small gifts.

Not going to Michaels. No way... no how. I will put everything in a shoebox first. AC Moore is very similar and they actually have employees that answer questions without being hostile.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I knew I could count on y'all. :)

Eva

Cost Plus/World Market always has a nice selection of baskets too if you have one of those around. :)

I'm sure you already went out... but I wouldn't worry about Michaels or crafts stores... their baskets are not cheap. the dollar store has plenty here and our goodwill has a BILLION for like $.75
