I adore my digital camera and am really glad we got a digital camera very early on. I recently pulled out my boxes of old film pictures and realized how many more (and generally better) pictures I have since we went digital eleven(!) years ago.
I've been in a bit of an organizing and backing up mood lately, so I decided as long as I had the pictures out that it was time to start scanning them so that I can start digiscrapping my older pics. I decided to start slowly and work on the pics from when my son was born until we got our first digital camera nine months later. This really shouldn't be too daunting a task since there aren't a lot of pictures from that time. What I forgot (I think I'd blocked the memory) is that we didn't really trust that first digital camera so we started out taking pictures with both the film and digital cameras of the same events (and continued doing that for a couple of years). So those layouts I just did of my son's first Christmas and first birthday? You guessed it. There are more pictures of those events than the ones I looked through when I made the layouts.
Now I remember why I haven't scrapped those years yet, either when I paper scrapped or when I switched to digi. I think I'm finally ready to take on the challenge of those early digi years. Both the digi photos and film ones are pretty well organized (in photo-safe boxes, thank goodness) so it's not too hard to see how they fit together As long as I have a good system for keeping track of the photos I've scanned and don't try to do it too quickly, I should be okay. My goal for now is to scan (and scrap) pictures for one layout per week. I'm not going to try to go in order; I'm going to do whatever I feel like at the time. For now I'm only going to go back to my older son's birth (and baby shower/preggo pics). It's time to get those pictures out of the boxes and onto layouts so that I can enjoy them!
I'm curious what other people do about their pre-digi pictures. Are yours already in photo albums or scrapbooks? What are your plans for those older pictures?
