I've been planning at some point to start ordering photobooks of my layouts for my kids.
I was reading in the persnickety thread that someone had an issue with the edges of their layouts being cut off? I went home and looked at my layout and a lot of them have detail around the edges.
Am I doomed to not be able to get photobooks?

Once I finish a layout, I always resize them to account for anything that could be cut off. Well, and because I create at 12x12 but print at 8x8. Since I'm already resizing that anyway, I usually just extend my background and whatever else needs to be.
It doesn't happen with ALL companies--but most. I don't know how they could garauntee things wouldn't be cut off. I know some are so minimal it wouldn't matter. And some say you don't need to worry. I do it just to be on the safe side.

I'll send you a PM with some actions I have found elsewhere

What I do is slap a .25 inch border around mine in a matching color & then resize it for printing. Its quicker and easier for me than resizing the background paper. Though there have been some where I merge most of the layers together & then move them over some before adding a border & resizing.
I've mostly gotten into the habit when scrapping of either layering a couple background papers or adding stitching or something to create a border & then keeping everything inside it, just to make it easier

I only print in photobooks. as a rule of thumb, I try to keep anything important away from the edges, keeping in mind .125" around the entire layout.
I like to use the guides to make sure that I don't put anything I'd be disappointed in losing (like part of the text) too close to the edges. I'm not too worried if a whole flower or button gets trimmed off just a smidge.
