hey there girls. i have a question for you. my husband is really wanting me to upgrade to CS5 (from cs2), so he downloaded a trial. so far i'm not loving it. does anyone here use cs5?? and if so - do you like it? he's super insistent for some reason. i think it's cause he already got it and now that he knows i'm content with 2 he's trying to push it on me - but he swears that's not true. anyhow...let me know - is it a better program?

I upgraded from 2 to 5 over the holiday, and I am enjoying it. It does things a little differently, and it takes some getting used to, but that's true of almost any upgrade.

I barely scratch the surface of what it can do. I haven't tried out the much touted content aware editing abilities. I just scrap, and edit photos. I don't really do anything in 5 that I couldn't do in 2, I just wanted to upgrade for teh sake of upgrading I guess.

But if he's so insistent, I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth ;)

I am in the same right now.. I have the trial.. and I am buying my upgrade on Friday.. I'm also going from CS2 to CS5. So far I'm loving it.. and the content aware editing is AMAZING. It didn't take a huge amount of getting used to for me.

I went from cs2 to 5 recently and ugh it was a PITA...but give it a try a couple of weeks in and it's so much better than day 1 lol...I started liking it a tad more and more each day.

I have CS3, and I hated the CS5 trial when I had it. I need to upgrade, but I really didn't like it, so I am procrastinating.

I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 last year and now to CS5. I haven't found it to be terribly different from CS4 (I remember there being more of a transition from 3 to 4). I love how fast everything is with CS5, but there's a good chance that's because I upgraded computers, too.

I totally LOVE the content-aware fill in CS5 - it rocks!!

I went from CS2 to CS5 last summer - it took a bit for me to get the hang of but I really like it now. Granted I definitely still have a lot to learn about the program but I'm really happy with the switch :)

okay...now i'm conflicted. cause i'm not digging the trial but i do think that over time i'd like it. one thing that really annoys me is though is that in cs2 i can open the picture i want to scrap and it just sits on top of the page and i can minimize it or whatever, but in cs5 if i open a picture to use i can no longer see the LO. it drives me nuts!

yes!! I remember that driving me insane too. I don't remember how to change the settings off hand - but I do know you can!

The worst thing about CS5 is getting it set up to the way you like to view things, but that all can be changed. You just need to change the preferences or something and turn off opening in tabs (under interface tab in Preferences)

Content Aware fill - LOVE IT
Raw file (even Jpegs too) editor's noise reduction built in -LOVE IT
Speed- LOVE

I upgraded to CS5 from 2 and I do love it now, just took a while!

quick fix you can window-arrange-float all in windows

you can go under preferences-interface-and there's an option to uncheck open in tabs

I used to hate the opening in tabs, and now I actually like it even more than everything opening in windows :)

Am I living under a rock here - are you really upgrading for $900.00???

Oh at this rate, I'll be using CS3 forever! LOL

I'm using Academic Superstore since I qualify there b/c of having Abby in school and I'm paying $200.

$900 sounds like the full price. I was just pricing CS5 at the Adobe online store. The upgrade from CS3 (standard or extended) to CS5 is $200. If you qualify for academic pricing, you can get the full version of CS5 extended for $200 in the Adobe student store online. I just purchased Creative Suite Design Standard (Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, InDesign, and Acrobat) for $299 in the student store - I just had to scan and attach a copy of my son's picture ID and report card.

I got mine through academic superstore. My SIL's are both in school, and my MIL is a teacher. :)

CS5's content aware totally just rocked my world. I'm starting a new thread :)

When I upgraded I needed a copy of my son's latest report card and a letter of enrollment.

I love CS5! I think that once you get use to the layout it is easy to use. Mini Bridge is my new lover.

Last summer I was really against it I had tried the trial and hated it. My husband did it for me anyway. And once I got it all set up with the palettes the way I want them and such and saved my settings it rocks!

I just upgraded this week from CS3 to CS5 cuz my new laptop has Win7 and it didn't like to play nicely with CS3 (but it plays fine witth CS5). Go figure.

I haven't had the time to play around with anything yet. I am not having any problems adjusting... except for the tabbed windows which I fixed as soon as I found out how. I googled it and also asked the designers forum at DST on how to fix that. But now I am wondering if there is a fix for the floating windows thing... cuz when I minimize an image it doesn't go to the bottom of the program, but to its own window thingie. That prolly makes no sense at all. It may be a Win7 thing or it may be CS5. I am having more problems dealing with Win7 (this wasn't the only upgrade I had to purchase).

Anyhooo... sorry for the ramble. I DO like it. I hope to get some time this weekend after I finish my kit to play around with it. :)

Have you tried running your programs in compatibility mode?

Right click on program icon>Properties>Compatibility> and then choose Windows XP or something else. That should solve the compatibility issues.

Eva, that's a windows 7 thing. I'm mostly used to it now but Saturday it almost made me cry lol .. there's not a work around, that I've found.

I just use the Window thing and find the file that way.
Does it make the file go to a new thingie in your windows toolbar at the bottom? You can make it so it collapses it down to just photoshop unless you hover the mouse over it. But yeah, I just click on Window at the top and then click on my file to open up a file there that I had minimized.

Sorry if this makes absolutely no sense since I have a killer headache right now and cannot think straight. Stupid Flu!
