View Full Version : Okay - have to share...

First a disclaimer... I'm not a baker. I hate to measure, so baking isn't my thing... but I have this thing that a mama needs to make their child's birthday cake. So, as most of you are aware from seeing my recent hybrid stuff in the gallery, my son's 4th birthday theme was neckties. He is nuts for ties and has to wear one every single day... :blink:

So... my mom made the cake and put on the buttercream frosting... and I did the fondant work for the tie and collar. It's not perfect, but I was jumping and down in excitement that 1. I actually made the fondant and it worked! and 2. that it actually looked like shirt and tie!!

I just have to share my final product...

I did cheat a bit with the fondant from the box on the blue and red... it was left over from my disaster fondant experience last year... but thanks to the ladies here... and a trip to the store to get that fondant mat... this year's fondant experience was way more fun! Even my mom was impressed... see is "old school" in that you decorate with icing and decorating tips.

Rebecca that looks awesome! Your little man is going to love it! I am so not the baker. Well I can bake OK, but decorating is NOT my strong suit.

Yay Rebecca! It turned out so great! And totally not cheating by using the prepackaged stuff for the colored bits! I'm sure he LOVED it and will always remember it!

So cute Rebecca! I'm impressed. My mom makes the cakes for my kiddos, otherwise they'd get store-bought. I don't think I could manage it. :)

My mom and I made my son's first 2 cakes, but then I discovered a baker who can do way better than we can for about what it would cost me to get all the supplies and take the time to do it, so she now makes my son's cakes.
