Hit me with your best treatments for burns...

I just burned the crap out of my arm while cooking dinner. What do you do to treat burns?

I'd probably use Neosporin for a day or two and then aloe vera gel. Burns suck - hope you feel better soon!

Oh - I am so sorry!!! There are some burn creams you can get at the drug store that are good and then there is a great Rx cream you can get - just can't remember the name of it. I kept it - as well as EMLA (topical anesthetic) with us the whole time we were overseas.

I have also heard (old wives tale) that cold milk helps to relieve the burning. Don't know if it's true - but it certainly couldn't hurt!

Aloe vera. We keep a live plant, but the bottled stuff works good too.

How much did you burn the crap out of it? Is it just red and painful? Or is there a blister involved?
If there is blistering involved, go to the urgent care - do not fool around because then you have a second degree burn and they can easily get infected (speaking from experience). And irrigate it clean with a sterile solution (with 0.9% sodium chloride). Then put antibiotic on and cover it.

No blister- just a nice long red burn line where I decided to set my arm down on the side of the pan that I was browning meat in. I need to get an aloe vera plant to keep around. I think I have some silvadene creme from when my 6 year old knocked off an iron and it landed on top of his foot. Its probably expired though. :thumbdown:

I had a friend give me some Tea Tree oil for a burn once when I burned my hand on the oven rack. That sure helped it heal up quickly! I don't think you would want to use it though if there were blisters and the skin was broken.

cool water right away will help. After that aloe gel with lidocaine (provided you are not allergic to -caine type meds). The lidocaine helps numb it. Keep it covered with a bandage so it doesnt get infected and if it does blister do not pop the blister

Just FYI, my DS burned his hand badly when he was little. We were at the hospital and the nurse had given him a bag of ice. He was happier but still in pain. The Dr. came in and grabbed the ice and threw it in the trash. He was MAD. He said that cold, esp. ice will draw the burn deeper into the skin and can make it worse. If you need to put anything on it he said lukewarm but NOT cold. I don't know if it's true, but he was with the burn unit I believe... My son had to have cream put on, a special second skin type of stuff and wrapped up with a splint and all. If it's really bad you might need some Dr. care.

Thanks Heidi. Its not that bad- I was just being a big baby last night and whining. I definitely have a red mark on my arm but there is no blister thank goodness.
