View Full Version : Life MAY be getting back to normal soon

I've mentioned that we're fostering/in-process-of-adopting a little 12 year old boy who lost his father a month ago. This morning we were finally able to hold a memorial for the dad and in May we have another hearing concerning custody (battling with a distant uncle who has a criminal background.)

This is totalllllly selfish, but I'm ready for things to settle down. I never have a night or morning to sit and play with photos and scrap anymore. The stress and work is NON STOP. Even though it's a joy to be doing this, it's still stressful! Do I sound like a jerk for wanting time for my hobbies? I'm feeling really bad about it.

I'm just waiting for the day when papers are signed and he's offically ours. A big part of our anxiety is wondering if he is going to be taken away.

Ahh... you never know where life may take you.

I am praying that everything gets normal and taken care of.

I'd be craving some normalcy, too. I hope everything gets worked out smoothly and quickly. Your son is blessed to have you fighting for him!

You are not selfish for wanting some normalcy and to have things calm down. I can totally relate to the fear of losing a foster. It is a hard thing to deal with on a daily basis. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future, things will be so calm it will feel boring and you will clog the gallery with all of the layouts you will be posting. :D

Hugs!

I definitely have a lot to scrap these days, thats for sure! Im in the middle of making him a very simple scrapbook of the memorial today. I asked everyone that came to write a personal message to him on a 6x6 square of card stock and I saved letters that were read out loud for out of town family and the pastors notes for the ceremony. Nothing fancy or showoff'ish , just a good memory keeper.

Now that this sad ceremony isover I'm already planning the adoption party in my head, lol! It won't be for months and months I'm sure, but it's never too soon to start, right? :)

Your idea of making a scrapbook of the memorial is so sweet and I'm sure he'll treasure it, especially when he's older! I can understand about the craziness of work and other stresses! Hoping everything settles down for you soon! :)

I am a foster parent also and have felt the same way for the last 7 months that we have had our foster son. Sometimes you need to take a "mommy break" and do a hobby you love. It helps you unwind and have a little therapy so you can be a better mom. :) Don't feel guilty. You need this. Hang in there! I hope the finalization comes quickly so you can find your new "normal". ((HUGS))

I am so happy to hear this!!!! I thought about putting a call out to other foster/adoptive parents here, but it seems like such a random thing I didn't think I would actually get a response, lol!

We currently have just the one boy, but we are planning to move soon to accomodate more children. I don't intend to adopt others, BUT you never know.

Hugs Val! It's an arduous process (not from personal experience but many of my friends have been there) but when it's all said and done, it'll be worth it! :) Hope you get a break soon- take a mental health night and just do nothing.... it'll make all the difference!
