There are several other people researching my family line, too, and have gotten newspaper clips and such about people who are my relatives. I found the funniest one yesterday, and had to share it:
"From Weekly Republican, published Springfield MO 7 Mar 1889: ANOTHER LOST BOY. A Father Writes in Search of His Wandering Boy. The following letter making inquiry about a lost child will explain itself. So far as learned, the boys inquired for are not in this city, as no such cases have been reported to the authorities: Cedar Gap, Mo., Feb. 18, 1889: Editor, Springfield Republican. Will you accommodate a broken hearted father and mother with family by inserting the following lines: RUN AWAY Arthur A. Ross, aged 13 years, large head, large blue eyes, large for his age. Had on a black hat, dark jeans pants, red linsey shirt, gray coat and vest, worn very much. He was decoyed and enticed by one Will L. Davis to run away from home and is supposed to have escaped on the train at Cedar Gap, Mo., on Sunday night 17th inst. They bought no tickets but are supposed to have gotten into an old box car and ridden to Springfield or to Bolivar, Mo., or may have gone to Texas, we cannot tell. W. L Davis is 17 years old, has gray eyes, small. Had on a brown hat, has dark hair, cotton shirt and checked coat. I only want Arthur A. Ross, do not care for Davis, rather never see him. Address me at Cedar Gap, Mo., by letter, whether you get any information or not, and oblige, Yours, etc. Andrew Ross"
I love the part where he says "Large head, large eyes, large for his age." Think about how different of a description we'd give today if our kids went missing....
Also "I only want Arthur A. Ross (my relative), do not care for Davis, rather never see him." Bahahahahahaha.... BURN! :)
Sorry, I found it hilarious. I'm really getting into this. I found out my grandmother was named after her grandmother, and found out the name of the 6th sister (My great grandfather was blessed with 5 girls, no boys, but what a lot of people don't know is that he was blessed with a girl first who passed away the day she was born. I had never been told her name, but she was the only one with a TRUE girl name...)
Each time his wife was pregnant, he picked out a boy name. Norm became Norma Faye after she was born. Carl became Carlene after she was born. Dean became Carol Dean, Glen became Glenda Mae, and Francis became Myria Francis, my grandmother.
Each time they hoped beyond hope this one would be a boy, and each time, they got a girl... Peggy Sue, the one who passed the day she was born, was the only one with a girl name to begin with.
