All of my cameras have been Nikons. Even the regular SLR I had AGES ago was a Nikon. Well, I'm looking to sell my camera I have now and want to purchase a DSLR. I don't really want to go fancy - this will be my first one, I'm just looking for easy to learn. I had a SLR that I got 11 years ago (my grandfather left it to me when he died) but after I got my first digital camera I've never used it again and sold it to my brother years ago. So it'll be like starting all over. Plus cost is a huge thing also.
These are the cameras I've looked at so far, do you have any advice on them? (And I am willing to maybe go non-Nikon.... though I've always loved Nikons lol)

Well I've had my Canon Rebel for almost 5 years (will be in August) and I have never had a lick of problems with it. I've almost reach 10,000 clicks on it!!! But when I was deciding what to buy I did try the Nikon (I think at the time it was the D40 or D40x) and the Canon just felt better in my hands. I say go to a camera store (even if that's not where you are gonna buy it from) and hold them all and play with them all and see which feels better to you!!
You really can't go wrong with either a nikon or a canon (don't know anything about sony)......they are both stellar brands!!!
But I just have to say that it some how feels "wrong" that the Canon one comes in red and brown!!! Just plain weird!!!! :D :D

Oh and even to this day holding and shooting with a Nikon feels weird to me, my sister has one (I think it's actually that one you posted the 3000) and I was using it a few weekends ago to shot some photos at her DD's party for her and I felt like a camera retard!!! :D :D

I used to love Nikon (and I think you can't go wrong with them), but since I switched to Canon I have to say I prefer their controls to Nikon's. But it's not like Nikon's are not good, it's just that I find I prefer the other. Also, at the time when I was still using a DSLR, Canon was lighter than Nikon (probably using more plastic), which might sound ridiculous, but it's a relevant point if you are going to carry it around for the next few years. I'd actually go to a shop and try to hold them all it my hand and see which one feels most comfortable. This way I decided against upgrading from G10 to G12 - the newer one simply didn't feel good in my hand.
I know I didn't help you, eh.

Yep, if you're upgrading to a DSLR the best thing to do is go to a shop and hold each one and see which one feels better. :)
I'm a Nikon type of person though and will never change now I have my D90, I love it!! :)

I  my Canon Rebel! When I was looking to upgrade to a DSLR about 2.5 years ago, I shopped around and, like others have advised, I went in the stores and actually held and played around with both the Canon and Nikon. I just preferred the way the Canon felt in my hand. Good luck! You're gonna love having a DSLR. :)

My big DSLR is a Nikon D60. I love it. I have had it for a couple of years and there has never been a problem with it. My BFF has a Canon Rebel. Hers is great too. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.
I am a Nikon girl for the higher end cameras (D60 and above). I have always loved Canon for P&S though. I know I might be weird but it is the truth. I have a Canon G11. Love it.

Good luck on finding your next camera love. :)

I got a Canon 60d and I love it. Im still working in auto mode but I tell you I can see a huge difference in this camera then my Canon S5iS which was one of those bridge cameras. You could add attachments and it had all the same settings as a DSLR but the photo quality was just not as good.

I'm another Canon girl. We've had the Rebel, but upgraded it to the 40D a couple of years ago. I've seen a real big difference between the pics taken with the 40D and the Rebel. However, I really loved my Rebel and would've keep it, but it had an issue (don't remember what it was) and it was still on warranty, so we decided to upgrade. Now, I can't wait for tomorrow, we are trading our 40D for a 7D! Yay! Can't go wrong with Canon, imo!

I looked at the 7d as well. My hubby told me to get the one I wanted. I found a great deal on the 60d which was the reason I went with it. I have heard great things from everyone who owns the 7d though!!

I'm a canon girl too but I really agree that you need to go hold them and see which feels better.
