View Full Version : S/O of the sucker thread - What do you NOT use that much?

Well, I'm obviously in a spamming mood today.

We've talked about what we love, so I thought it might be interesting to find out what we find ourselves not using that much. Which doesn't mean we don't like it, but maybe our style / Muse is not compatible with it (most of the time).

I find I only use these rarely (there are exceptions):

- buttons
- brads
- stitching (no idea why)
- templates (I'm three times slower with them)
- anything glittery
- anything plastic-looking
- anything felt
- most acrylic ellies (even though they look fab on other people's LOs)

What about you then?

Ok I rarely use but as you said I also have exceptions.....
Brads
Staples
Acrylic (mainly because I can never shadow them properly)
Felt
Stamps
Brushes

I'll update if I think of more x

not keen on flowers (or have to be in the mood for flowers)
buttons
stamps
brads
patterned alphas

Splats. I like scatters, but can't seem to use splats
Brushes...but I think that's just because of ignorance
Acrylic, because like Star said, shadowing them is a nightmare
Brads
Flair, mainly because I never seem to fit it into the LO just the way I want it

Well, I really LIKE brads. What I am tired of is buttons. A few are okay, but I don't like it when most of the elements in a kit are buttons. I also am often at a loss for using ribbon. I'm not really a fan of felt either. I hate it when there's word art on journaling cards, but no blank journaling cards. Not really into kits that have too many pastel colors.

Buttons, straight ribbons, alphas in mixed cases (just pick one! lol), alphas in mixed colors-- even if you evenly divided red blue yellow red blue yellow, etc, when you have shorter words, sometimes you end up with two of the same color and one oddball... like, once I tried to do the word "joy" on a layout, and the JO was one colour, the Y was another. It just looks WEIRD. I like uniform alphas that appear in the same colour scheme (though, having multiple alphas in multiple colours is fine- then I can mix and match myself, or use them all uniformly).

This too.

Unthreaded buttons
alphas on shapes (circles, squares, whatever) - rarely, if ever, will use them
FLOWERS
^ alphas in mixed colors
^ pastel kits
doodles (don't hit me! I love how they look, just have a hard time using them to fit in with my style)

please don't listen to these whackos saying they don't use stitches brads and staples. They're just weirdos. :p:p:p:p:p Yes! Since so many kits have flowers that I don't want to use, I rely heavily on brads! And stitches and staples are a must - those 3 things, plus buttons, are probably my favorite elements. :)

Oh, this was probably supposed to go in a different thread, eh?

Hm, I can't really think of anything that I avoid using...
I like to scrap in my own language so I try to limit the use of English wordart to a minimum.. But I still use it!
I'm having a hard time with patterned alpha's too, I prefer solid ones.
And I don't like elements that look too digital.

In my case it's not about avoiding really - it's just how things are. When I remember to use stitches, I'm happy with them. Same with staples etc. It's just that normally I don't remember, because my Muse leans into other directions (let's hope not out of the window - ok, lame one).

lol.

You're looking at it from a 'mix and match kits' point of view, right? In that case, there are certain things that I won't look for because I just don't think of it either. (wordart, owls, birds, epoxy, acrylic,...) But when I scrap with just one kit, I tend to use everything!

You caught me at it! Yes I'm looking at it from a "mix and match" point of view, even though I totally didn't mean to. It just happened. There goes my effort at a broad outlook. Oh well. :-)

I totally also scrap with one kit, but I tend to think about my stash as a whole rather than about a kit.

I almost never use stamps or brushes. I love the effect, I just can't seem to rock it.

I'm pretty much a "use everything in the kit" kind of girl, too.

But you know what I hate? Paper packs. Funny, because i LOVE paper, but not having elements to work with makes me crazy. This is why SSD is my most favorite shoppe in the world. Lots of papers and elements and alphas all in one happy little bundle. : )

I don't mind paper packs, but I do hybrid, that's why. If I didn't, I'd be the same way probably.

Same here... I usually have a use for everything in the kit - but brushes and stamps I don't know what to do with so I shove it behind a photo lol... but if I buy something that is "sold separately" I never use it.... every single time!

I pretty much use it all too, however, I shy away from using kits that have lots of felt or characatures.

I don't like:

- mix and match alphas - not much use of them for me, coz of the odd-chances.
- patterned alphas (they are hard to read on a page)
- wordart - I rarely use wordart and hate it when there's so many pieces of wordart (and buttons for that matter) in a kit, just to have a higher number of products included! I like to use wordart, but prefer the blank labels, tags and journaling cards.
- ribbons that are wide and all curled (like twill), they look unnatural on the page when it comes to shadowing them (but I love curled ribbons otherwise)
- repetitions of one item recolored in various colors. (Makes the kit seem like there's more products included, but you really end up using only one or two, usually, and really have less product overall - doesn't apply to flowers for me, though. I love flowers.)

I do love stitches, splatters, scatters, flowers, strings and ribbons, etc.

On a note of what Kellie said: I wouldn't mind, if they would offer products separately here. Still keep it bundled, too, but also separate embellies, alphas and papers. I think I would get a lot more alphas this way, esp. alphas that aren't white or neutrally colored.

I try to use everything in a kit too. If I'm unsure of how to "play" with it I'll go raid my favorite galleries to have a look-see.

However, I really really wish I could use buttons, like loads of buttons, on a layout. Like do a scatter of them, etc. Whenever I try it just ends up looking clunky and "fake" lol. Also brads.

interesting thread because I always wish I could find more brushes and here people could do away with them lol!

I am not too into the epoxy elements or flowers that have buttons or something like that in them for the center. I rarely use the word art included in the kits but love how others make them work.

I used to mix and match kits a lot but now I find I try to use most everything in a kit.....

The things I delete as soon as I unzip:
Buttons
string
folded or curly ribbons
realistic greenery
pre-layered or shadowed elements -it messes with my own shadowing
back to front brads

Then there are things I hope to use but never seem to rock them
Alphas on a background
realistic elements
scatters (but I love splatters)
Themed BG paper.

I am not too huge in felt...or just gems..blingy gems... and the little bitty bitty tags...I use them every once in a while but not often

Now we switched a bit to the "what do we wish for" (maybe it would be wise to start a separate thread for it, we might be heard out :-), I kind of wish that if there's wordart in the kit that the designer included also a blank strip + mention the font in their credits so that I can make my own (90% of the time the texts on the strips doesn't apply to me, but I still usually like the wordart and wouldn't mind replicating it).

Love buttons but hardly ever use them - same with brads . . dont like multiples of things in kits that are exactly the same but different colours (unless they are 2+ colours) Also never use brushes, but I think it's just cause I'm not sure how to use them lol

I just WISH I could remember to USE stuff. If it's not staring me in the face in the particular kit I'm working with I forget I have it. So often stitching or stamps/brushes would really enhance a page and I just don't even remember I have them till it's too late. :( I want to be a use my stash kinda girl and not a kit scrapper :(

I have a hard time using the cute people in kits. I've done it for a CT layout to show off the product but for my own personal layouts, I just can't. I rather have threaded button than unthreaded. I've used acrylic and kinda have shadowing where I'm happy with it but it's hard to get it to look right. I also have a hard time with tags. It never looks right when I put it on my page. Same with realistic elements (e.g. extracted stuffed bear, etc.)

I find myself always looking for string, stitches, ribbons, ricrac, flowers, splats, scatters, staples, alpha (not a fan of round button type though), frames and word strips or tags in every kit so I must love to use these alot :) I will go to another kit to grab these if I really want it on a layout.
