So, I read about what an avatar was, but I'm not sure if I understand. So, I will ask what may be a stupid question. Is an avatar related to that cute little design/logo at the bottom of someone's page that I had seen somewhere on this site?

An avatar is the photo that's by your username. The photos/logos at the bottoms are referred to as signatures.

Did you get my pm at scrapbook.com? I'm not sure but I think you still need to get to 10 posts before you can add an avatar.

There are three places to add pictures -
profile picture - which people see if they click on your name to find out more about you,
avatar picture - which shows up in the forum next to your name on all of your posts,
signature - which shows at the bottom of your posts and can just be a typed name or phrase, or you can add a picture or blinkie.

As to the ones you are seeing in the bottom signature area - there is another post that mentions Lena wrote a blog on how to create one - the linkie is here:
