anybody take it or have taken it in the past? I started it today and know that it will take awhile to kick in, but wondered if anybody has ever been on it, what did you think? What were your experiences? My doc also said it should help with some of the pre menopausal stuff so I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!

My hubby is on it. I can't vouch for how he really feels all the time cause only he knows, but I can tell you that life here at home has DRASTICALLY improved. Things had really gotten out of hand here over the summer, and now I feel like we're back to pretty much normal. Thank heavens for good meds. Hope it works wonders for you Angie!

here's a couple posts about Paxil in your original thread (https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60968&highlight=paxil)...

I didn't have a good experience on it but of course everybody is different. Good luck! ((Hugs))

I took and hated it. I felt like a total zombie on it. I stuck it out for about 6 months before coming off it. I've been on Celexa before too and hated it.

I'm on Zoloft now and it has done WONDERS for me. I also take Xanax as needed.

thanak Megs, I had totally forgotten people told me some of the drugs they took :) I opted for the Paxil to start with because the weight gain with the Prozac kinda scared me!!! So I will let you know how it goes down the road :)

Alisa, I take the generic version of xanax, alprazolam. I take it only as needed and in extreme situations because I have HORRIBLE anxiety and panic attacks. Sometimes it makes me drowsy.

I have pretty bad anxiety too that basically controls my life. I'm flying next week which is a huge fear since my 9/11 experiences and my dr prescribed .25 of Xanax. It's the lowest possible dose since I'm nursing. I'm nervous about taking it

Is that not the epitome of anxiety? Being anxious about taking anxiety Meds?

I was on the .25 for a while but after having Kennedy my anxiety spun WAY out of control. On a scale of 1-10 it was already a 10 and then after having Kennedy it went to like 100.
At first I was nervous about taking it because I was afraid of how I would react to it and getting addicted to it. But it really does help. I would take 1 and see how you react before you even go on the plane. Like take a few days before so you know how your body will react.

Angie, I took Paxil for about 5 or 6 years. In the beginning it was great and was like a miracle cure for me, and I could tell the difference pretty quickly, actually. I know it takes a while to fully settle in to your system but I did notice a change. My dh said my moods were like night and day. Also I was not having constant panic attacks anymore. After a couple of years though it got to the point where they had me up to 60mg a day and that is when I was totally zonked out, but w/o that much it was not totally under control. Also no weight gain at all which was great. So just see how it goes for you and if you ever need more and start to feel it is making you too lethargic just switch and try something else. So far on Paxil the weight gain has not been overwhelming for me, it has been a few pounds and that is mainly because I do not really eat properly right now. :hugs:

Angie, I take Paxil. I vary between 20-40mg per day (when I remember to take it) and have been taking it since 2006. I don't have anything bad to say about it. I take it for anxiety.

One thing I will warn you about though, is missing your doses (a day here and there is fine, but a few days in a row.....). DON'T. It's a horrible, horrible feeling. You don't know what to do with yourself, you're shaking, you can't think clearly, you feel nauseous, sweaty, weepy, heart palpitations....it's kind of scary.

Now, in saying that, I successfully weaned myself off of Paxil, completely, early last year (2011). I didn't think I needed it anymore. I was fine for a month or two, but then stopped sleeping. As soon as fall rolled around, which is an anxious time for me anyway (sending kids back to school, arranging extra curricular activities...every year it's like the fact that they're growing up right before my eyes, is very very evident when they go back to school) and then this year, I was going back to work for the first time in 8 years (I was stressed!). Anyway, I'm back on it and my sleep patterns are better and I just feel more relaxed in general.

Weight gain - none other than my own doing. lol

My hubby has been taking Paxil for over 8 years now. He'd get so anxious about stuff he'd be VERY cranky. Every time he tries to lower his dosage I can tell because he gets crankier. LOL

I've never tried Paxil. I've been on Prozac since '99 though. I've tried to take myself off of it a time or two but it never lasts long. Its funny because I'm on the lowest dosage that it comes in and I take one a day and that's all I need but I can't give up that one 10mg pill a day or I'm back to screaming and crying and having crazy irrational fears. Good luck!
