But talk to me about Zoloft please? I finally felt like I had no choice but to ask my doctor to put me on something because I was crying what felt like all the time and had no appetite at all....just really depressed. I know it is normal to feel that way after what I have been through but it was getting pretty bad and I knew it had gotten to the point I couldnt just deal with it myself. So how well does it work? When can I expect to feel a difference? And my dr started me out at 50 milligrams once a day. Is that about normal? This is the first time in my life I really needed an anti-depressant.

Zoloft wasn't the right drug for *me*, but it's very good for depression AND anxiety, which is nice! I didn't stay on it because it gave me nightmares at night. I took it a LONG time ago, 7 years ago. However, I have learned that the drug I take now, Wellbutrin...also gives me nightmares at night unless I take it in the morning. So years ago, when I tried the Zoloft, had I moved it to the morning I might have been okay. On the Wellbutrin I felt better after about a week-10 days.

I got put on Zoloft after I had Kennedy. Before I got pregnant I had been on a few different meds that just weren't right for me. And after Kennedy my anxiety kicked into MAJOR overdrive. I mean HORRIBLE. So I knew it was time to get put on something.
I take the 50 milligrams as well. At first I was really tired all the time and I was getting headaches a little more frequently. (But I suffer from migraines really bad anyways) They say it normally takes 2 weeks at least to feel any change from meds. After the first 2 weeks, I started to feel better. I am much more calm now. I still have my days but I feel like I can actually breathe now. And I'm not as depressed either. But it will take time. And it might not be the med for you. So don't feel discouraged if you have to try something different. I've gone through 3 to get to Zoloft. I also take xanax as needed too.

I take xanax at night to help me sleep but the dose is so low I usually have to take two. The doctor put me on .5 milligrams. So when I go back she will need to increase that I think.

So much of what to expect depends on your body. I tried Zoloft briefly when Caitrin was nursing. It wasn't right for me at all. It was an awful experience. I had horrible headaches and stomach pains and hot flashes with it. I also didn't care about anything. The house could have burned down and I would have just sat there staring. I went off of it and went back to Prozac. I only tried Zoloft because it was said to be better for nursing moms. My doctor and I felt strongly that the Prozac was worth the 'risk' involved. Of course, now they know that very little, if any, gets in to the milk supply but this was 9 years ago.
Anyway, they say most meds take up to a couple of weeks for them to build up in your system to a point that it makes a difference. When I first went on Prozac it took less than a week, more like 3 days. I could feel the difference almost immediately and within 3 days my husband was commenting on the difference in me. Same goes for now if I don't take them for a while (I'll start feeling good and start forgetting to take them) then I can tell the difference immediately when I do take them.
Hopefully Zoloft is right for you and that you get quick results. As for the dosage, I don't remember what the doses start at for Zoloft. I know for Prozac its 10mg and that's what I've been on since '99. The doctor started me out at 20mg and it made me tired so he bumped it back to 10 and that works for me.

I took zoloft for a long time. It was probably 6 weeks before I felt better. When I went back on meds the last time, I was put on lexapro and it is amazing. Worked within a week.

If you have a depression (caused by a physiological problem) on top of the grieving you are going through, then you might get some relief. It usually takes between 3 - 6 weeks before you start to feel better, because the drug needs to build up in your system, but every person is different.
And I just wanted to say that your story has really touched my heart, and you've demonstrated such courage and grace dealing with all you've been through. ((Hugs))

I take Zoloft also and it has done wonders for me. Anxiety was my major issue and it has worked beautifully. I haven't had an anxiety attack since starting it and I was having about one a week prior to that. I haven't had any noticeable side effects either, so that has been a major blessing. It really has made a huge improvement in my life - and the lives of my family as well. Hope you can figure out what works for you. *hugs*
