PSA. back up. NOW,l ol

My name is Tracy and I am a procrastinator.

and I have paid

I am having the WORST week ever. I mean in a LONG time. nothing is going right. won't get into it, but holy crap this is enough.

then I got a shock this morning. My ehd won't work. we have tried everything we can think of. I lost EVERYTHING I have made in the last two or three months. all the templates I have made. and stuff I have bought for like 5 months. sigh. trying to get it all reactivated now.

someone suggested putting it in the freezer. I searched and found that it actually has worked for some. has anyone here tried it.

ok...done whining. going to go do some challenges now, lol:p

aw Tracy, I feel your pain (although I don't design. lol). My laptop got a corrupted file downloaded to it and I couldn't access anything until my loving husband played and played and played with it ... finally I can access stuff, finally burned everything to back it up.

Sorry you are going through this. Haven't heard of the freezer thing either. But thanks for the reminder to back up - it has been a while for me. Hope you can get it fixed. Keep us updated!

Ugh - oh that hurts. It couldn't hurt to try the freezer, right? I've never tried it but I have seen others mention it. Though if you do get it to work after freezing it...I'd recommend transferring as much over as you can!

Thanks for the reminder! Now that I've got high speed, I need to do an online backup!

Man, that stinks! I hope the freezer thing works. I'm going to buy some DVDs today and back up my layouts. I'd HATE to lose those!

you've sure had a tough week - not heard of freezing either - makes me wander who thought to try that one out! Hope it works for you! Would be interested to hear the outcome - best of luck with it!

That sucks! Sorry to hear that, that's one of my biggest fears. Hope things start looking up for you!

Ugh! That really sucks, Tracy!! I'd be wary of the freezer idea because of possible water damage from thaw out condensation. Just not something I'd be willing to try.

Tracy, that sucks! I have heard the freezer works for some, it's worth a shot, right?

I hope you can get it all sorted. I did a major back up to my EHD a couple of weeks ago from my hard drive, but I never really feel safe for some reason.

My pal Katrina recommends Mozy, she lost her EHD and was able to get back a lot of her stuff that way. I'm planning to sign up, but the only time I remember is when someone has a crash.

Let us know if the freezer works!

I just signed up for it myself...well I did a few weeks ago but couldn't back up on dialup, lol. So I re-signed up. :) Anyway, the nice thing is that it's automatic...it backs up every night any new files that it detects on your system. :) No need to remember, just tell it where to look for the files.

I wanted to sign up for Mozy & then my DH reminded me we have a monthly upload limit of 10GB. :( Between my photos, my scrap stuff, my music & audiobooks, I have 100GBs of stuff. It would take almost all year for me to upload it all, or I'd pay some huge fees for going over my limit.

I just stick with my second EHD and DVDs for now. hhmm... I haven't backed stuff up in 6 weeks or so. I probably ought to get cuaght up.

I talked to my computer geek penny pinching fiancee, lol. He'd rather I just ghost my EHD to one of his hard drives (his desktop has 2 and oodles of space). So I'm going that route for now.....

Bumping this up to see if Tracy had any luck. Thanks for the PSA though, I did back up last night before I went to bed. I got soooo blessed last week in that a friend of mine GAVE me a 300 GIG EHD. He thought that it would just magically back his stuff up for him every day and when he didn't he decided he didn't need it  so my gain for sure!

Tracy I really hope you were able to salvage your stuff!

WOW That totally stinks! I hope you were able to recover your stuff.

The freezer? Really? Weird.

I almost lost my last portable EHD and bought a new one when it started acting funny. I also have a non-portable one, I use that as my back up and I double back up to DVD because I am that paranoid! As a matter of fact I think it's time to do a backup! It always takes these kinds of posts to remind me!

I have got to remember to back things up!!!! I am soo horrible. I did buy an EHD but I guess that is not fool proof either!
