View Full Version : Photoshop technical troubles - I'm about to cry...

I have CS3 and PSE6. I used PSE on Monday. Tuesday I tried to launch PSE and got a pop-up box "Licensing for this product has stopped working" - when I clicked OK, I got another pop-up "A read application library failed to load and the product cannot continue" CS3 was getting the same error. I have uninstalled CS3 and am now just trying to get PSE to work (since it's way easier to install and uninstall), as most likely when it works, so will CS3.
I have tried everything. I was on live chat with Adobe for an hour yesterday. I googled it and found these instructions http://www.megaleecher.net/Flexnet_Licensing_Service and also these on the Adobe site: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html Tried all of that multiple times - even while I was on the chat. I have uninstalled, downloaded the files over again and installed MULTIPLE times. Nothing has worked.
My ticket is still open on Adobe and I'll be contacting them again tomorrow, but I just thought I'd throw it out to you all as a long shot to see if anyone has experienced this problem before.
Of course, the comments on that first link indicate that worked for most people. Just not for me. :crying: :crying: :crying:

Ugh, I have no idea. How frustrating that must be!
Did anything change before it stopped working? Did you install/uninstall anything, updates, etc?

I don't know the answer either, Mary, but just wanted to send out a hug! Those inexplicable computer problems are the worst!

I'm pretty sure I had that problem when I disabled my C drive (which is a very small, stable drive) as one of my scratch discs. I think it was last summer, so I'm foggy, but I think I had to do some sort of magic key combination to reset my Preferences to default when I started up the application. It then worked fine, but I had to re-do all my preferences (yuck!).

Krystal, you most likely did one of the following right at the very beginning when you launch the program:
(WIndows PC): Alt+Control+Shift
(Mac) : Option+Command+Shift

I have no advice. I once had that happen with another graphics program, and absolutely nothing I did worked. I finally gave up and switched to PS rather than upgrading the other program like I'd planned to. I hope you can get it working again!

Thanks girls - I'm going to contact Adobe again today. I haven't had enough time this week to spend every single minute figuring this out - I've already spent hours as it is.
I will try that key combo on start-up - ready to try any hint at all!
But I knew you all would understand how upsetting this can be. :(

Oh no!!!!
Maybe if it doesn't fix they will have to upgrade you for free... ;)

I recently had issues with CS5. I got a brand new laptop and CS5 at the same time. About 3 weeks ago, CS5 would randomly force a shut down, me losing anything I was working on. We tried reinstalling, I called Adobe help, nothing worked!!! I was beyond frustrated. Last week DH did a factory restore on the computer...completely wiping it and then reinstalled everything again....everything is working fine now.
So....if nothing else works....I guess wiping the computer and starting over might be the only solution.....pain in the butt but it worked!!!! I am sure mine was an update or something like that gone wrong....it was working fine for a month and then BAM...closed down several times a day.
Good luck!!

Oh, I forgot, one of the first things they asked me was whether I had done a system restore or backup. Yes, I did do a system restore about 5 weeks ago to get rid of a trojan that McAfee didn't catch. But PS ran just fine for all that time!
The only thing I can think of is that I was forced to do an Adobe flash update this week for Pandora to run. So it could have been that.
I had thought about doing a wipe, but ugh, I don't want to! :( If Adobe can't help me today, that may be my only choice.

Good luck, sweetie! I have to say...be prepared...when I had problems with my PSE, their CS told me that they could NOT offer me any support of any kind because they will only help you if you have the most current or the previous edition. I was 2 editions behind so they told me tough, get a new program.

That's exactly why I'm weighing the time factor of trying to fix it vs. just getting something new. I just want their guarantee that the something-new will WORK on my computer without me having to do anything to it.
I don't want to have to replace both PSE (which I LOVE) AND the creative suite (which of course I NEED). That mini-bridge thing I saw in the other thread might just get me out of PSE, especially if I can get an education version of CS.
And thanks anyway Lara! :)

That happened to me and I spent HOURS and HOURS on hold. When I finally reached a tech, he said, "let me google and try to find the answer for you". I almost cried. I had a ticket but no one called me back. Their customer service stinks. I finally just bought a new copy :(

I had that problem with CS3. I finally ditched it and moved on to CS5. It wouldn't work at ALL. I tried a zillion different things including the combination Krystal mentioned. It didn't work. I installed it on a different computer just fine but it wouldn't work on mine. I reformatted my hard drive and tried again and it still wouldn't work. I never did get it to work on this computer so I gave up. CS3 is on DH's computer now and CS5 on this one.

Mary, you can ALSO get PSE on education as well - if you decide you want/need to upgrade it.

I wonder if McAfee deleted something it shouldn't have and it only showed up once the Adobe flash update happened. Is there any way you can restore back to before the Flash update?
Also, you ran the licensing repair from that Adobe link and it didn't work, right? Is the Flexnet Licensing service actually running? It should be set to automatic if you look for it in the Services menu (just type "services in the Start menu).

It should be set to automatic if you look for it in the Services menu (just type "services in the Start menu). Yes, I downloaded and ran the repair (multiple times). And I've set the Flexnet Licensing to start and tried both manual (which the guy on chat told me to do and it wouldn't "stick") and then automatic. Nothing worked. I do think you are most likely right that the system restore coupled with the Flash update caused the problem.
I probably could restore back to before the Flash update, but I hate system restores. The last one I did messed up a bunch of stuff, including my Backblaze. I had to abandon my account and start the backup all over. Ugh! And the fact that my PSE is so old and I had CS3, it might not be worth it when I really should be upgrading.
I just downloaded the beta version of CS6 and I was able to get it open. However, I got some kind of error about something graphic. But so far it's running - although not very fast. But I am LOVING that mini bridge at the moment. :) They even gave you the option of the dark background like PSE.
I really need the entire creative suite as I need Dreamweaver and want Illustrator - like I had before - so that Cloud is looking pretty good to me, since my son is getting braces next week and all extra money is going toward that right now.
Does anyone know how long Adobe usually takes between releases? When was CS5 released? If I knew I was going get all updates within a reasonable amount of time, the payments on Cloud won't bother me too much.

Mary, check your preferences (in CS6 Beta) and under PERFORMANCE on the right hand side, look at your Graphics Processor Settings> Advanced... see what it is set at. Set it to basic if not already, and see if that gets rid of your graphics error...

Mary, it's usually about a year and a half or two years between updates. I bought CS4 the month it was released (I believe it was Sept or Oct 08). CS5 came out in 2010 (spring maybe?). So, the updates aren't terribly frequent.

I was a die hard PSE girl...I think I've posted that enough around here :p .....I was NOT giving up my photo bin!!! :D :D Well I haven't opened PSE since Tuesday and I have scrapped probably about 5 or 6 pages in CS5!!!

Set it to basic if not already, and see if that gets rid of your graphics error... You are right, that's where the error is. However, the error makes it all grayed out - says there is an error in the display driver and I'm supposed to update or reinstall it. Uh...I would have no idea how to do that. Maybe I'll just restart and see if that works.

So, the updates aren't terribly frequent. But that might justify the Cloud price. If it's $445 for the suite I need, that covers almost 15 months and there could possibly be updates to the other products in the suite during that time. (can you tell I'm trying really hard to justify it because there is no way I can do $445 right now!)

Mary, from reading the forums since the first day of the beta launch, it appears that mannnnnnnnny people had to update their driver for graphics. So I have a feeling you'll need to do that as well if your getting the error still after a reboot. Wish I could help you figure out how to download and install that but I'm a mac girl and I just don't remember a thing about windows anymore. I do know that you'll have to go to the website of the manufacturer for your graphics card to download it.... I just am not sure how to figure out on windows which card you have, etc.

Lara - did anyone say what kind of problem that error creates? After I rebooted, I opened CS6 again (which btw, it says my trial is for 60 days), and did not get the pop-up error, but went into Performance, and the graphics area is still grayed out and if I hover over it, I get that same error message. But it seems to be working properly, just wondering what really isn't working because of that error.
