Just 9 days left of school and I'm outta there!! I love my job but boy am I ready for the break. Everyone is just over it. The kids are grumpy and anxious and tired and, well, done. The adults aren't much better. Everyone is rushed with all that we have going on and its just a little crazy. I have never been more ready for summer break in my life, not even when I was in high school did I count down the days. I always hated for school to be out. Now I'm counting down right along with the kids!
I think part of the problem is that I am fighting horrible allergies and I'm not dealing so well with them. I'm not getting anything done at home. My house is a disaster and I am just too worn out to do much about it. All year I've struggled to maintain and I never got everything accomplished like I had hoped/planned. Last summer I let things go and kept telling myself I'd buckle down when my kids went to school. It was the first time I was going to have BOTH of them in school full time and I was looking forward to so many projects during those 8 hours a day they would be gone. Not two weeks in to school and I accepted a job. LOL I figured its part time, I'd still have 4 hours a day to get stuff accomplished. Who knew 4 hours would FLY by so fast. It doesn't help that I've volunteered for everything under the sun and I'm always at one of the two schools I don't work at. Today I was at my daughter's school, yesterday I was at my son's, tomorrow I'll be at my son's again... and it goes on and on and on...
Long story short, I can't WAIT until the 22nd when I can say goodbye to the kids at school (which will, no doubt, be tearful as our 3rd graders are moving on to another building next year) pick up my own at the end of the day, turn off my alarm and get busy on this mess of a house!

Sounds like it will be a huge relief for you Sherri. Good luck getting everything done in the house. Mine is a constant, and pretty much losing, battle. :)

LOL-I'm dreading the end of the school year! As hard as it has been to keep up with the house stuff and the school schedules sometimes, having just my 3 year old at home is so much easier than having all 3 kids. Summer here means lots more mess and less time to deal with it.
My kids will all do some camp throughout the summer, but for June and August each will be doing 2 mornings or 2 afternoons a week. (Because of their ages, 2 have to go to the morning only program and 1 has to go afternoons only, so no kid-free time to get things done.). During July, when they all have camp or a school summer program most days, the overlap of when they will all be away from home at the same time will be....under 2 hours a day. Sigh.

I totally get where you're coming from, Sherri! :p I teach 6th grade, and with the combination of the earlier than usual spring and raging hormones, the last month has been pretty much a roller coaster. Gotta love springtime in middle school... not. :cursing:
Sorry the allergies have been bad for you this year. That is no fun. Here's hoping for a smooth ending to the year for you, and that you can get stuff done around the house. I always have such great plans.... *sigh*. I was supposed to paint the living room over April vacation, but not a drop of paint has touched the walls yet. I got them all washed and patched, but by the time I actually get to paint, I'll probably have to wash them again! :o

my kids don't get out until mid June! I feel for the teachers here! Of coarse summer doesn't really start until July :D and they don't go back until after Labor Day so it works out good for us! hoping those 9 days go quick!

I can only imagine, Lori. Middle school is so crazy for kids. Our district didn't transition until 7th grade when I was that age. I started Jr. High in 7th grade. I had never heard it called Middle School until we moved to Kansas. Anyway, here our 6th graders start middle school and I feel for them, its such an awkward age over all!
One of the teachers at school is my facebook friend (she was also my daughter's teacher last year, she's awesome!). She read my post over Easter break about how I didn't get as much done as I had planned. She warned me not to expect too much from summer break. ;) I am hopeful though!!

I feel for them too. I'd much rather get out early and go back early than to spend 2 weeks of June in school. My niece and nephews back East are on that schedule and while being home until after Labor Day seems nice, I enjoy the early part of the summer so much more. By mid August I'm ready to go back. We only go back a week before Labor Day.

We had junior high for 7th, 8th and 9th grades here when I was going through the system. We only had 3 years at the high school. It seems odd to think of it now... but it seemed to work at the time. I think part of the reason was that class numbers were much larger then, so the high school couldn't accommodate all of those kids.
Summer does seem to go by very quickly, so I think your friend is probably correct. Last year was the worst for me... I came down with a cold on July 1st which developed into bronchitis and eventually pneumonia... I had ZERO energy for most of the summer and didn't really get better until mid August. That was a total bummer! I am sure hoping that this summer is more productive than last! We're taking a family vacation to DC during the last week of June, and then the kids start rec camp for 6 weeks, so hopefully I'll get some stuff accomplished! All we can do is try... plus, we do have to enjoy our summer too, after all! :w00t:

I'm with Rachel - I wish school was year round :D I work from home and while summer can be fun it also means my soon to be 7th grader is bored bored bored. She will be in various sports camps over the summer and at her Outward Bound for a week but it's still a stressful 11 weeks. Maybe this summer will be better than the few previous, since she has matured a bit, but we'll see!

The junior high I started out at was 7th, 8th and 9th. The next town's junior high was just 7th and 8th. It was a few weeks in to my 9th grade year when I transferred to their school district so I went in to the high school. I think size was an issue for our school district as well too. We had a new high school being built when I was in junior high. We would have been the second graduating class out of there. Well, my friends who stayed with that district were in the 2nd graduating class from there, it was me who moved. LOL
