and other artsy stuff.. if you don't have a room in your home to get messy where do you do it? kitchen table?

I saw this video and it was SO relaxing and inspiring that I really want to make a go at doing some art type stuff.. I LOVED chalk pastels back in the day and I just want to get messy again BUT I hate hate having that sorta stuff get all over the place so that is the one thing holding me back.

Any tried and true methods of still doing stuff like this but not making your home a disaster?

I have a craft space in my office and I cover the table in huge sheets of kraft paper.

I don't really have an area where I can paint right now...just paint in the kitchen....I am thinking of setting up an area in our bedroom though since it gets great natural light. The biggest pain about painting in the kitchen is having to constantly clean up my supplies. I keep my paints and brushes in a Rubbermaid container in the craft closet of our school room.

In my bedroom...I have a tv tray that I put my artsy stuff on. And a bunch of little containers to organize my glue, paint, pens, markers etc. Right now I am working on the words live, laugh, love to hang over our bed. I am painting them lime green and aqua and then covering in scrapbook paper. I am done with love. Half done with laugh (still have to cover it with paper) and get more sandpaper to distress the edges. Then I can start on Live. Kinda doing it backwards I guess. Eventually I will have a craft/computer room to do my crafts. Most of mine arent so messy though. Cross-stitch, embroidery, candle-wicking, crochet, flower arrangements...I dont paint often. Or glue stuff.

One of the essentials that would help with clean up is this Craft sheet (http://www.amazon.com/Ranger-15-Inch-by-18-Inch-Inkssentials-Craft-Sheet/dp/B000S17ZAY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1352822385&sr=8-1&keywords=tim+holtz+kraft+sheet) to put on top of your table-you can get paint on it, ink, just about anything and it cleans right up. The only downside is that I wish it was bigger!

I use big old plastic bags/trash bags...waterproof and cheap and easy to lay out.
