Ugh, I'm so sad! I've been using my MacBook Pro with my Canon Xti for a few years now and all of the sudden I can't get the computer to recognize my camera :( I've tried all USB ports, restarting multiple times, 3 different cords, different cards, iPhoto preferences, etc ... nothing seems to work. My computer is recognizing other cameras and I tried my camera on on another computer with the same result, so I'm fairly certain the problem is specifically with my camera. I'm going to get a card reader and hopefully that will at least allow me to transfer my photos. Le sigh.

If anyone has had this happen to them and found something that solved the problem, please share! Luckily the rest of my camera seems to be working.

Oh Sheri, I have no help for you. I hope you are able to get the pics transferred. Have you tried your camera but with a different card in it? Could it be the card?

Oh no that stinks!! I did have that happen with my old camera, but after a while it just started working again. I bought a new cord and that solved it for me.

I hope it gets figured out - that is the worst!

Ohhh thats a good idea... try and use a different cable. That happens with EHDs sometimes too!

I had that problem with my PC and it was that my camera's memory card was bad... I could see the photos on the camera, but it just couldn't "connect" with the PC... got a card reader and got the photos off it and then got a new card and haven't had problems since... again, PC world - not sure if the same for you...

I was going to mention the cord too! That seemed to help us in the past! The cord was bad. I can't tell if you used that cord with the other computers or cameras though!

Thanks for the suggestions and the commiseration ladies! I did try a new card and new cables, but neither worked :(

Maybe it's a sign you need a BRAND NEW CAMERA for Christmas :)

Is there software from the camera on the computer? Maybe that needs to be reinstalled...

That is a good suggestion! I checked and there is no driver available. I did try to install some software from the Canon website last night, but I couldn't complete the installation because it wouldn't recognize my device. I will keep trying! Maybe it will magically start working again! Thanks again for your suggestion!
