Thanks for all the advice last month in my thread about blurry, dark photos. I've been doing a lot of reading about camera settings, and the biggest problem was that my mirrorless camera's auto mode was choosing too slow a shutter speed for shooting kids. My photos are coming out better now, but even with my iso set high (1600-2000) I'm running into the aperature limitations of my kit lens. At the focal lengths I use most indoors, it can't go wider than 4+. Flash helps sometimes now that I've turned the power down, and I've ordered an add on that will allow me to bounce it off the ceiling, but I see a new lens in my future.
So here's my lens dilemma. Micro 4/3 lenses tend to be expensive, and the better ones are holding their value too well to get much of a deal on a used lens. There's a wellegarded Sigma prime lens that's the perfect focal length for me and it's one of the few reasonably priced lenses (on sale for $150), but it's f 2.8. All of the lenses that open wider than f 2 are $300-$400. Do you think they're worth the extra money? I could get the Sigma lens fairly soon, probably for my birthday in March. I'd have to save up for one of the others, which could leave me with only the kit lens for up to a year.
