View Full Version : I guess it's time to seriously evaluate my stash - again

Lightroom is starting to run a little slow - there's a second or 2 lag when I tag things, which is not acceptable!

I have a smallish (750 GB) solid-state drive on my laptop and it's about 2/3 full. I should probably get it back down to about 1/2 full, which will mean some serious culling of my stash. I can try moving some of the supplies to my EHD and keeping them in the main catalog. But, I'd rather move the supplies I'm not likely to use to my 'archive' catalog, so I'm not even seeing them when I browse through my supplies.

I never enjoy sorting through my supplies this way :(

Have you considered moving your stash to an EHD entirely? That's what I did and it helped a ton. My laptop drive has more space and memory and it works nicely, even with a database of tags.

I'd move my stash to an EHD too if you know it's something you might use again

I don't think I'll get rid of anything entirely this go around, I just need to decide what to keep on my computer and what to move to the EHD. I much prefer to scrap without the EHD connected, so I only want to move things to it that I don't think I'll want to use very often.

ETA: And considering that I have over 1200 previews tagged in LR, I probably don't use most of those supplies very often!

Yikes, the idea of having all my stash on my computer scares me! Lol. I've had so many crashes I always use EHD for everything, no matter what. Since getting my newest computer I've been really careful about what I download and what sites I go to, but after past experiences I'm still a fraidy-cat, lol.

And then all of a sudden it was speedy again. No clue why. Not complaining, just puzzled.

I'm still going to move some stuff to the EHD, though. I'd like to get my hard drive less than half full.

Everything on my laptop hard drive is backed up to two EHD's and using CrashPlan over the internet so I'm not too concerned about losing things in a crash. Besides, it's a solid state drive in my laptop - and they have a lower failure rate than EHD's.
