View Full Version : Health Kwest - Help me brainstorm!

So, I mentioned one of the daily challenges that I have to complete in this thread. (https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70413) I wanted to bring it over here though so that it doesn't get buried in the rest of the discussion because I REALLY need help coming up with something super awesome and clever.

So, here's exactly what the challenge says:

Make a video of you doing your own Genghis Grill Health Kwest dance in front of your location. Get your family, friends and staff involved and upload your video to youtube. Have fun and exercise! 100 points

So, I need ideas of something super clever but somewhat simple that I can do with a group of people. I'm thinking it shouldn't be too difficult in the choreography department because 1) there will be a lot of people learning it just before we film it, and 2) I DON"T DANCE. LOL Seriously. Me dancing? NOT PRETTY. But for $10k, I'll do it.

2 of the other contestants have posted on fb what their plans are, so I want to make sure that mine is equally creative but not copying theirs (and I won't be telling mine on fb for crying out loud - at least not without hiding them from the posts.)

One girl is doing Gangnam Style but changing it to Genghis Style (clever!)

Another girl is doing NSync's "Bye Bye Bye" but she is changing it to "Baby look at those thighs go bye bye bye."

HELP!!!

How about I like big bowls and I cannot lie? Everyone can dance with the bowls you fill there?

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! That's pretty funny!! I wonder what kind of dance I could do for that???

Maybe everyone could have the bowls hidden behind them and turn around to shake their butts at that part and the bowl would be there? I have no idea... LOL!

I should also mention that Jeff had the idea of doing something like the Evolution of Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNg) video. But he says we should take like 5 or 6 songs that we can do nice simple dances to and then overlay them with captions (ie - YMCA since that's where we work out, Can't Touch This.. me in the competition, Pee Wee Herman's Tequila dance since that's what I can't have during the contest... that sort of thing.

I'm not sure I'm sold on his though. It seems like a lot of coordinating to get everyone doing all the different dances (he would make up a mash-up of the songs of like 15 seconds each, so they'd just fade one into the next).

I just want to brainstorm other options though. This is the challenge I'm most nervous about. The others I can find a way to pull off. But this one is SCARY. LOL

I like both ideas (and btw I don't really dance either) and really only listen to country music. Line dancing is relatively easy though maybe find a country song that you could change up a little bit?

I thought of that, too, Jessica. Any suggestions?

I like brookes big bowls suggestion. As for the dance, I think maybe try to incorporate workout moves in- have people do a pushup, squats, jumping jacks, etc. to incorporate the health aspect

Taylor's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"....dancing around throwing away chips and chocolate? LOL!

I love Brook's idea with the bowls too. :)

Ok, for a music video type thing, you don't exactly have to have this nice coordinated dancing throughout... see the nurses in this one? I love this one, by the way! So inspiring!

The choreography should be pretty easy. If you need ideas - try searching you tube for high school half time dance/cheerleading performances. Lots of wiggling your butt and moving your arms around. Or even dance mobs -- all those moves are really simple since they're teaching 100s of people. It might spark inspiration :)

And I love brookes idea! I totally saw people holding bowls behind them over their butts. And then they start wiggling and jump around and stick their butts out and wiggle more (with the bowls over them) lol!!

I'll think on it and see if I can come up with more song ideas! Good luck with everything - I'm sure you'll do great!!! :D

Is 200 maximum points? And you get scored out of 200 points based on creativity or you get 200 as long as you meet the requirement of dancing and posting on YouTube?

I love the ideas here!

is it just you dancing or can others do it too? I think a flash mob at the restaurant would be cool! You are going to have a TON of contestants use Gangnam style since it's popular right now so you need something equally catchy but way more unique

Libby Pritchett

That's unclear, Ripal. All it says about that is "All points shown are total maximum that can be received. You must complete the task with 100% effort. If you do not complete the task with all the requirements, no points will be given. GG has final say."

Meg, it's as many as I can get. Me, friends, family, staff members, strangers... I've got to do this NEXT week!! ACK!

i only thought of some dance classics...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D76fxU85bUg (starts 0:38)
dance flashmob in germany :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am8jX1FmRSA

i think to use a dance that everyone can learn via video beforehand is cool.

I love Brooks bowl idea and Js idea of using some workout moves. Those should be easy to do together. Plus booty shaking doesn't have to be in sync, just don't for the same length of time. :)

Maybe to break up the video you could have the employees and managers holding the bowls filled up really high? Customers at the bar filling their bowls?? Maybe to be funny you could bring a little bowl from home and fill it with junk food like chips or candy (like Tracy's idea) and make a face at it then just toss it... then show the BIG genghis grill bowl overflowing with veggies & stuff??

so fun! i am not that creative - but i have always loved the 'firework' videos that different schools do - maybe there is some way to incorporate that idea in the video ?

e.g.,:

... plus many many others ...

What about doing it like a flash mob? Flash mobs are still fun, right?

These are awesome ideas!! Thank you!!! I'm still trying to decide, but it's definitely feeling more doable now.

I'm SO thrilled to be doing this contest, but it's totally overwhelming!

Ok, I talked to Jeff and showed him these videos, and he LOVED the Stronger video and thought we could tie that into my own thing. I'm thinking maybe I could film part of it elsewhere... like at the gym working out and stuff like that. Then do a big group scene at the restaurant.

We're still thinking it through, but that seems to be our favorite so far. I think we could tie it in to our health kwest pretty easily.

I can't believe I'm doing this!

LOL, sorry, your challenge made me think of this video, which has nothing to do with fitness except have a bunch of treadmills :p

Ok, I just had to thank all of you guys for the awesome ideas in this thread. We shot my video yesterday, and Jeff has been editing it today. We've got to re-film one small part tomorrow, and then it'll be up on youtube!

I can NOT believe I've done what I have in this video. I've made an absolute fool out of myself, but we had a blast. Hey, anything for the shot at $10k, right?

Some of the other contestants have already posted theirs, and they are VERY plain. One guy had some people doing the chicken dance. Another girl said she was gonna do the hokey pokey. So, I may have gone a little overboard. LOL

I can't wait to see your video, Libby! I'm sure you haven't made a fool of yourself. I think people who can live a little and not take themselves too seriously are some of the happiest. ;)

For a contest like this, I think overboard gives you a much better chance of winning. Can't wait to see your video!

Where can we see them all? I want to make fun of your competitors' videos. J/K - sort of. Just to myself. ;)

HAHAHA! If you go to youtube and do a search for "health kwest" or "health kwest dance" a lot of videos will come up. I put a filter on to just sort by things added just this week. Seems like almost EVERYONE is doing the Harlem Shake. I didn't even know what that was til yesterday! LOL

I've made friends with a couple of the other contestants. This girl, Sheree, has an amazing video (hers is actually a lot like mine, so maybe that's why I like it. LOL) But because I don't mind giving her extra views, I'll link it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rNc9D0tBJ0)! ;) If I don't win the big money, I'd love to see her or one of the other girls that I've gotten to know win.
