Please help me!!!

I am totally new to scrapbooking and I need help. I purchased Micheline Martin's Crunch Time Templates (https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/shoppe/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1756)last night and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

First off, I use PSE6. Are these templates compatible with this program?

I got the rip pasted on top of the torn page and even got the shadow underneath. BUT, it looks flat, there's no depth; my crunch is mushy! What do I do? I thought I followed the directions but it just looks like a cut out piece of paper stuck on top of the same paper background with a bit of a shadow.

I have HUGE ct that uses a variety of programs and I could get them to explain it in more detail for you :)
Have you used your blend mode on the cut out piece of paper to blend it to the "rip that I have in the zip" to give it that look?
