I've made my decision!

I'm sharing here because I know y'all will understand my excitement. Whew...it took a long time to reach a decision, but I've finally decided which new computer I want. I haven't purchased a new computer in 3.5 years and I don't plan on buying another one for AT LEAST that long, so I've been really particular. After visiting the Apple store no less than 4 times and asking y'all for advice, I've decided on the 27" iMac with a 3.2 GHz processor, 16GB of RAM and 1 TB Fusion Drive. (monitor size is still up for debate lol) Now, to save more $ for it. lol Hoping to have my new baby by May...eeeeeee! :thumbup:

Ooooh - you will love it!! We installed the equivalent of a Fusion drive in my MacBook Pro last year, and I was amazed at the difference it made. And, 16GB RAM will be awesome! Good luck saving your pennies!! :D

Thanks, Lydia! I'm very excited. I've never really done this much research and careful consideration of a purchase before. I usually just buy what I think I'll like right off the shelf...so I've also never had to wait or save either. lol I know it'll be so rewarding once I finally have it home.

Laura, you guys are military, aren't you? I bought my MBP through the Apple store online and got a better discount than I would have gotten in the store. Worth checking out if you haven't already :)

When you click on store on apple.com, look on the right under 'more stores'. Government and Military is one of the choices. Then select the one that includes military under 'shop for myself'. I was really surprised, but I just had to say that we were eligible, not prove it in any way.

I can't remember, do they sell them at the PX? Because you wouldn't have to pay tax there but you also wouldn't be able to customize it.

They do, Lynette. But, it's the base model 21.5" and you're right, it can't be customize. :/ At least the discount online covers the tax.

How big is your desk space? I have a pretty large work area and the 21.5 inch is perfect :) Not sure I could get used to a 27.

Hi Laura, I am new to digi scrapping and this site. I have been following this thread because now that I have to fight my kids for the computer, I thought it was time I got another one. I was sold on getting a desktop and didn't even consider a laptop. Then I found this thread. And all I can say is....
Wha wha what?? Holy hold on! You said you only wanted a laptop. I saw how everyone said they love the portability of the laptop....you guys changed my mind.

Hehe, didn't mean to confuse you. Yes, I didn't think I could live without the portability of a laptop, but here is what changed my mind....

COST: With Macs, you can get so much more computer for less $$ going with an iMac over a laptop with retina display.

SCREEN: After going to the Apple store and playing around in PS on the iMac (yep, they have it installed on all their demos), I was AMAZED at the difference. In this case, size really does matter. lol I didn't really realize how much I was straining to see and having to zoom in and out all the time to work with the smaller elements. And you can have a full sized LO up on one side and still have room for the web or the files you're pulling from on the other.

LOCATION: In truth, I don't really scrap anywhere else in the house but the family room, and I still have my old MacBook Pro that I can work on if I'm traveling or something.

I think the best thing to do is go into the Apple store and play around with both. The people there are so helpful and so far, nobody has ever made me feel my questions are dumb. lol
