The screen part of your laptop? My SIL bought a new one and is going to give me her old one:thumbup: , BUT the catch is I have to get it fixed. Apparently the 'back light' in the screen has gone, so her screen is black, and she was told that it could be between $150 and $600 to fix. To me that sounds like a lot for a light?

my husband's laptop screen used to just go black and when we called Dell, they told us it was cheaper to just get a new laptop?? - Maybe not exactly cheaper, but not worth just fixing the screen I guess.

Hope you're able to get it fixed!

I had heard the same thing before, but that was years ago, so maybe things have changed.

My understanding is a lot of the manufacturers will tell you you need to replace the entire screen rather than just the backlight which is why it can be so costly. If you do a search online you can find some directions for replacing the back light yourself although it looks rather complicated. I'm all for encouraging people to fix things themselves but I'm not sure it's something even I would attempt. I'd probably try and find a computer person locally who might be willing to fix it. If it comes to the point where you're told to replace the screen though then it might not be such a great deal.

I think I would decide what it is worth it for me to spend and then start checking prices. Once it exceeds my price goal then I'd just be done with it!

well my MIL had to take her puter to get fixed, so she takes it to this guy in the neighbouring town, and while she is there, she tells hims about this laptop. He tells her is a very easy quick fix, and I should bring it in and he wilee get it up and running in no time!!! I am so excited!!! I AM GETTING LAPTOP

Great, Conni! Good luck!!
As for the cost, I know at our company (I work for a computer service company) replacing a LCD screen is one of the most expensive part-wise. It's usually a $400-600 kit. The labor is not too bad on it; for techs who know what they're doing it's an easy fix. The parts are the killer though. Whether it's a backlight issue though, depends on how the backlight was broken to begin with....
