I am looking at getting a wide angle lens for my Canon T4i that I got last year, does anyone have any recommendations? Do the add on wide angle hoods work or should I just get a wide angle lens? Any help would be appreciated. Hubby said I could get it for Christmas and I feel lost trying to figure it out!

I have heard amazing reviews about the Sigma 30 lens. Its only for crop cameras such as your Canon T4i. Other lens I would recommend is the Canon 35 f/2 (35 f/1.4 as well but that one is expensive!) or if you don't mind zoom, the Tamron 28--75 (older version), Tamron 28-70 (newer version replacing 28-75), Tamron 17-50 or Canon 24-70 (pricey though!).

Do you know how wide you want to go? What kind of pictures are you wanting to take that you can't with the current lens or lenses you have now?

I had a 30 mm 1.4 sigma & I absolutey loved it! Sharp photos, great aperture & wide enough angle for inside photos. I only got rid of mine because I got a canon 24-70mm 2.8L.

What do you have now? 30mm Sigma is good, if wider I believe Canon has a 17-55mm one too but its more expensive being a zoom. I LOVE my Nikon 24-70 and when I was on a crop camera the 17-55mm range was perfect for me. But it depends on what you have already. Sometimes wide is too wide.

Just an FYI, 30mm on a crop body isn't a wide angle. It's considered a normal lens, similar to what a 50mm lens on a full frame would be. That's why I asked what kind of pictures you are wanting to take because if it's landscapes or something, 30mm won't be wide enough. But if you just want a bit more width for indoors or something, a 30mm is great for that.
