I'd love about that much snow for a day or two. :) Then I'd be done and want my sunshine back.

LOL! They look cute!
It's funny how you adjust to the cold climates if you have to.
I'd never snow, except a light dusting in Atlanta maybe once or twice as a kid visiting family.
Growing up in Florida I always longed for snow. My first year in Japan, we had like 170 inches of snow. LOL! I still love the snow, or I guess I wouldn't have picked to live in Alaska or Michigan, but these negative temps, I didn't sign up for that crap! LOL!

I don't want a ton of snow, but dang it, show me the white stuff!!! i'm from Vegas where it snowed maybe 6 times the entire time i lived there. i want snow!

I'm in lower Alabama (by Columbus, Ga so far we are just freezing). They say snow around 3pm we shall see. I'm putting the small trash bags on Cole's hands if it does snow lol!

we just moved from columbus in august of last year! how crazy is that! maybe the snow only came to the atlanta area because a friend of mine in atlanta keeps posting snow pics on fb
So cute, Nikki! We have patchy half-melted snow. I wouldn't mind a fresh dusting just to pretty things up a bit. Thankfully, it hasn't been too cold (for Utah) here, but I'm still ready for Spring!

So neat to see another scrapper that lives here!! :)
I am not missing Ohio! My mom text me this morning to tell me it was 10 below! I had to rub it in that the sun wasn't even up and it was 39 here lol!

Very cute! I think every winter needs a few good snowstorms to play in, and then it's time for spring. This year we're getting hammered by cold, but we've only managed one 4-inch snowstorm (and a few dustings). So not fair to have the cold and the snow days without the actual snow!

LOL at least you got snow. They shut down all of Houston in anticipation of the storm and nothing happened. I went out during rush hour and it was awesome because the roads were fine but no one was on them. :D

there are kids stuck at school still here b/c parents can't get there to pick them up b/c of traffic. The problem is when it started snowing businesses and all shut down at the same time..so instead of staggered "rush hour" which is usually bout 3 hours in Atlanta it was all at once (around 1pm)..downtown it took some people HOURS just to get out of their parking deck in their buildings. So glad I don't work in the city anymore

So cute with the gardening gloves and crocks! They are smiling big though!
I hope the littles get home... That's tough!
We are used to snow in NJ.... so I giggle a little at the hype, but I understand it isn't what you guys are used to...Hoping all stay safe, warm, and everyone enjoys it a little. :)

Ohh they adorable outside in the snow!
I am from Alabama and have had to get used to the cold and snow up here quickly. It is not fun at all ...I am beyond ready for Spring. I am just grateful that my family in Alabama/Georgia are safe and sound. There are a lot of accidents, people are stuck at work and some kids in Birmingham are having to sleep at their schools/daycares tonight. I keep calling my mom every few hours to see if she is okay since she will be sleeping at the work (the hospital) tonight. DH said he is actually glad we are up here instead having to deal with all of that in Birmingham but it just makes me sad that they were not prepared.

that's exactly what my friend said, everybody got on the road at the same time and then the snow got bad really fast and everyone got stuck. I can't imagine having my kid stuck at school or on a bus with me not able to get to them. That would make me panic.

We ended up with about 1-2 inches and it's still on the ground this morning. Everything is shut down though and there have been lots of accidents and like Tronesia said, even some schools in AL where they didn't cancel and the kids had to spend the night! We just aren't used to snow/ice at all. Brian had to help push about 6 cars up a hill yesterday on his way home from work b/c they were blocking the highway. It's crazy.

I laugh for sure (I'm laughing right now :D), but you couldn't pay me to get on the roads in the South when it snows. Most people aren't used to it and the DOT isn't prepared for it.
I read a bit of the news this morning and I couldn't believe buses were stuck and kids had to sleep in schools, etc. I hope everyone impacted is home safe and sound.

Haha. I love that it says part of the problem is that peeps don't have snow tires. Lol. You don't need snow tires in two inches. You just need to slow down. :D
My sis lives in Atlanta, and it was her hubby's birthday yesterday. He was so excited to surprise her by getting home early when his office closed, but then it took him three hours to get home. Ah well.
Enjoy it while you've got it. :)

the stories of people still being stuck in atlanta are heartwrenching. Hoping the weather warms up and the NG and local first responders and DOT are able to get roads moving again so everyone can get home.

I'm curious - did Atlanta not think the storm would hit them? Because part of the reason they preemptively shut down Houston was because they said the weather would be good enough to get to work in the morning but if the storm hit, getting everyone home would be a nightmare. Since the storm shifted and didn't hit us, it seemed like an overreaction but based on what's happened in Atlanta maybe not.

not sure Lynnette..We were only supposed to get a dusting...the problem is that everything happened at once..business, schools, govt all closed around the same time (1230-1pm) and impacted traffic so bad that DOT couldn't even get to where they were supposed to be. They salted the roads up where I am but I'm a good bit north of the city just didn't make it into town before all the traffic halted. They said all the other times the snow has happened over night so there hasn't been the traffic issue where this time was the middle of the day. I think maybe b/c it did shift and came UP to us that we probably weren't prepared for the "magnitude" of the snow and ice. It's cold and sunny here today so anything that the sun melts is turning to ice pretty quickly.

Lynette, it was expected to be South of Atlanta and mostly only in Southern GA. But the forecasts were not predicting anything above that area but again it was wrong. We had 2-3 inches in the Northwest most part of GA and were supposed to have nothing.

wow, watching CNN and seeing how bad it is in Atlanta! Those poor kids and all those stranded drivers. Yay for Home Depot and Kroger for opening their stores to the busses of kids and other stranded people. People running out of gas, even truckers. I just can't imagine how those kids and parents felt being stuck away from each other.
In Portland, OR we had 7-10 days of ice in December 2008 that completely shut down everything. No mail, ambulances couldn't get around, etc. National Guard had to come in for emergency management. It was bad, but looking back we were super lucky because we didn't have the massive traffic jam that Atlanta suffered. So crazy.

Yeah, that's crazy because it seems like exactly what they thought would hit us, hit you guys instead and we got nothing. I can totally see what's happening in Atlanta happening here with as bad as our traffic is normally, so I can see why they'd be extra cautious. People seem to forget just how large these cities are and how unprepared resource-wise they are to deal with these types of storms.

To be honest, this happens to us during the first snowstorm of the season... Apparently many people forget how to drive in snow, even living here their whole lives! :glare: There was a snow storm a few years back, I want to say like 5 or so... where down in Madison, roads were shut down and hundreds of people were stranded on the freeway and had to sleep in their cars.
Hope that makes you feel better... :)

According to last year's statistics Georgia only has THIRTY snow plows for the whole state..we just aren't prepared for this weather b/c it never happens here really. Not worth the cost to maintain and keep them I guess...at the end of the day it always comes down to budget and $$ lol

I live close to Columbus, GA/Fort Benning. We have been at home since my husband came home from work yesterday at one. They are off again tomorrow as whatever that did manage to melt, will freeze tonight at 18 degrees.

My mom lives in Stockbridge, just outside of Atlanta, and my brother works landscaping in and around Atlanta.
She said, from what she had gathered, that they weren't calling for things to get bad until like noon/1ish, but it started getting bad around 10 or so. And that some school chose not to just close for the day, instead they decided to close early, forcing more traffic because people were getting out of work early to pick up kids, or leave work.
I don't know, she lives really close to I-75, she said my brother didn't work yesterday or two, and my youngest brother's high school closed yesterday and today.
It's crazy, I can't believe how bad the interstates look on the news!

I just heard on ABC news that some kids will have to spend another night at school. Whatever snow melted is freezing again on the roads. I hope all this mess ends quickly.
