View Full Version : Readers Help Me Out

I get most of my reading material from the library, which means I often have to wait a few weeks to get the books I want. Occasionally several books on my wait list all come in at the same time.
The following books all came in this week and while I think I might be able to get through all of them before they are due, I probably won't, so I need to prioritize. Of these books, what should I read first?
Dark Places (http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Places-Novel-Gillian-Flynn/dp/0307341577/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392764260&sr=8-1&keywords=Dark+Places) by Gillian Flynn
City of Women (http://www.amazon.com/City-Women-David-R-Gillham/dp/0425252965/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392764291&sr=8-1&keywords=City+of+Women) by David R. Gillham
Wool (http://www.amazon.com/Wool-Hugh-Howey/dp/1476733953/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392764334&sr=8-2&keywords=Wool) by Hugh Howey
The Monuments Men (http://www.amazon.com/The-Monuments-Men-Greatest-Treasure/dp/1599951509/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392764358&sr=8-2&keywords=The+Monuments+Men) by Robert M. Edsel

Haven't read any of these, but I just added them all to my Kindle Wish List! And from looking at them, I'd probably read "Wool" first.

That's what I was thinking. Though I need another book for my TBR pile like I need a hole in my head. :p I tend to read mostly YA or Romance, but am always up for something good.
I'd recommend Wool too, because it's a great story AND it's a pretty quick read, so you might be able to get on to the other books quickly. :)

Thanks, everyone. Wool ended up on my toead list because so many of you had it on your list of favorite books you read last year. I'll start there. :)

I'm an avid reader, but haven't heard of Wool, so I'm adding it to my list. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wool part 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Wool-Part-One-Hugh-Howey-ebook/dp/B005FC52L0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392844213&sr=8-2&keywords=wool) is free... it's actually 5 parts that make up the whole book. (http://www.amazon.com/Wool-Omnibus-Silo-Saga-ebook/dp/B0071XO8RA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392844213&sr=8-1&keywords=wool) But it would give you a little taste of what it's about to see if you want to read the rest (and you will cause it juts gets better and better).
There are 2 other books in the series after this, too. Shift & Dust.

I did finish it Libby. I really enjoyed it. It's not my typical genre, so that's saying a lot.

did you just read wool one or did you read the whole thing? I read the whole thing after reading this thread and it was actually pretty good! I was disappointed by the second part, and the ending to the whole thing, but the rest was really good.

I just read Wool. I'd like to read the rest eventually, but I was ready for something different after I finished the first one.
Bummer that you found the ending unsatisfying. I really hate it when that happens.

it just ended abruptly. I tend to dislike endings of books anyway :p like the end of the hunger games series made me throw the book, haha!

Adi, did you read Shift & Dust, too? Those will fill in a lot of the information that you find missing in the ending of Wool (though admittedly, Shift raises more questions than it answers, I think).

are shift and dust a part of the wool omnibus? I read that... I dont remember seeing anything about shift and dust though so I'm thinking they're separate books?
Libby Pritchett
03-02-2014, 08:30 PM
Right... There's the Wool Omnibus which consists of 5 parts. Then there's a whole separate book called Shift Omnibus (3 parts) (http://www.amazon.com/Shift-Omnibus-1-3-Silo-Saga-ebook/dp/B00B6Z6HI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393806519&sr=8-1&keywords=shift) and another called Dust. (http://www.amazon.com/Dust-Silo-Saga-Hugh-Howey-ebook/dp/B00CYNGPTG/ref=pd_sim_kstore_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0F1CNF9EY25DWXREY8A0)
Both of them are available for lending on Lendle (http://lendle.me/books/search/?q=hugh+howey) if you don't want to buy it. :) (I borrowed them myself or I'd offer to lend them to you)

oh thanks! Looking at lendle (i've never heard of it before!) there's a 6-8 of wool too. I wonder if I shoudl read those first..
Libby Pritchett
03-02-2014, 09:32 PM
I *think* Wool 6-8 is actually Shift 1-3. LOL It's all so confusing cause originally it was released as a series of short stories. Then, they were packaged as books. So, I think that's why the number is so weird there.
