When I saw the no embellishment challenge on this month's bingo card, I knew I wanted to give it a shot because no embellishments is a HUGE challenge for me. I tossed around a few ideas in my head but most of them also required the use of brushes, or doodles, or some kind of elements. Then I was trying to fall asleep the other night and inspiration from a recent blog post I had read struck me. I could use it for a layout!

And so, my threenager layout was born. It pushed me away from my layout comfort zone and I kind of like the result!

I'm not much of a template user so I decided to step outside my comfort zone a little bit and flip a template. I saw Brook's kit and thought it would be perfect for my daughter, sweet and a little quirky. I cruised the shop, fell in love with this set of templates and went to flipping.

I am not good at journaling, but I still want my pages to tell a story - so the word strip challenge was just perfect for me! The word strips in La and Jenn's Everyday: Focus kit stated perfectly what I would have journaled on this page:

Journaling:
Within the last years my life changed from a life with 3 men to a life with one "man". It's a big change, even if my big boy hopefully can come back in a few months. At the day when it was sure, that Bastian needs to go to his dad my life broke for a second time and I'm so sad about it. It feels like the end.... is this a new beginning? Can it help us? We will see!

You know what I love about this new challenge format? I read the Bingo card at the beginning of the month and ended up doing several challenges without even realizing it! But I also wanted to challenge myself to create a layout just for a challenge so this is my take on "Make 1/3 of your page a really BIG title."

To create the background, I blended my photo into one of Kristin's papers by changing the blend mode on my photo layer to Screen which gave it the gradient look. Then for the title I duplicated two copies of the same font, turned one black and one white and offset them a smidge for a more graphic look. At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging on my own layout, I really love how it turned out!
