I have a Dyson Animal upright. I've had it for a long time -- more than 7 years, I think. It's great - it is easy to use, has great suction, and it's very easy to empty the canister and clean the filters (they only need rinsing). I like the attachments too - it does a good job on stairs with the attachments.

We have the Dyson Animal and while it works fine, I've never been convinced it was worth the money. I suspect it's much better than other vacuums at sucking up fine dust but it often takes multiple passes to suck up things that my hand vac gets on the first go (like Cheerios). I also really dislike that the hose for the attachments is in the handle because it makes it a royal pain to switch between vacuuming and using the attachments since you have to take the vacuum handle apart each time.

I have a Dyson (I can't recall the model off the top of my head, and I'm too lazy to get up to look. LOL) I've always liked it, and it works fine. I bought it about 6 years ago. But I recently purchased a Shark Rotator Lift-Away (http://www.qvc.com/Shark-Rotator-Professional-Lift-Away-3-in-1-Vacuum.product.H282097.html?sc=H282097-SRCH&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-2-_-H282097&catentryImage=http://images.qvc.com/is/image/h/97/h282097.001?$uslarge$) because we needed another vacuum (hubby had claimed the Dyson as his and was using it at our rental property. LOL).

Anyway, I actually like the Shark better than the Dyson. It's easier to maneuver, it picks up just as well, and it's cheaper.

I bought mine through QVC because that was where I found the best deal at the time, but I've seen them in lots of other places. So, you'd probably want to shop around a little to find the best price.

We looked at a dyson but hated the cost. We have a Shark Navigator and love it. easy to use, easy to clean, sucks well, attachments are easy to switch between

I agree with this completely.

I've had my shark navigator for 3+ years and can't recommend it enough! :) It's super easy to use and clean. You just have to wash out a filter every couple months or so if you notice it's starting to lose suction.

I'm with Lynnette and Julie, have the Dyson Animal and really like it but it can be a real pain to switch the attachments in the handle all the time.
