I effed up my workplace and tools yesterday somehow. I don't even know how. And now I can't get it back to normal. It's like my tool bars are ON my canvas and not docked to the side. I also can't separate and rearrange them. I have tried everything I can think of but I'm sure it's something simple I keep missing.
This is what it looks like right now.

and when I click on those little arrows the whole thing collapses like this

What version is this? CC or the new CC 2014 update?

Did you have your default workspace saved by any chance?

What do you see when you click on the Windows tab at the top? If you click in the dark gray bar and NOT on the arrows and drag it to where it is supposed to be will it anchor itself? General preferences, interface, enable floating document window docking, is that checked (unless that's not your preference)?
Just throwing out ideas...

Ok, so I did a Google search on 'default workspace' to see what I could find out, and I figured it out!!!! I started messing with all the workspace options and realized that I had somehow switched it to 'photography'. So I tried all of them and turns out that I usually have it on 'design'. Yay!
See, I knew it was something simple. I've never messed with those settings before.

Glad you got it figured out. I always try to remember to save it when I tweak mine.

I've done the same thing before, Val. It's super annoying. Glad you got it figured out though!
It's so frustrating when things like that happen. I'm glad to read you figured it out!

I didn't know you could save it. I'm going to do that now. I'm so picky about how things are arranged.
