Today is Veterans' Day in the United States.

Please share your veterans' stories. If you are a veteran yourself, I thank you for your service!

My Papa fought in WWII. He never talked abt it so I don't have any great stories to share, but he used the GI Bill to graduate from college and support his family. He was very proud of that. He was a good man and, I'm sure, a good soldier, too.

My grandpa served in the Army during the Korean War as a mechanic. He then came home, married my grandma, had 5 kids and owned his own mechanic shop.

My cousin joined the Navy and served for a couple of years, but she got married to another sailor and has two kids and chose to get out. She's still living all over the world as a Nay wife now.

I have been in for 17 years so far.

That's awesome that your papa was in WWII! Even though he didn't share his stories, I hope you are able to gather as much as you can to preserve his time in service! We met a man in Philly from WWII and he shared with us photos as well as stories for almost an hour of his time in service. It was awesome to hear his stories!

I am not a vet but have a few in my family. Both grandfathers served, my father served and now my husband is currently serving. I have the privilege of having my husband home today, but have to say "Good bye" to him tomorrow as he is heading back overseas until January. He was able to come home for 12-days for us to find a home at our next duty station.

My grandpa fought in WWII and the Korean War. He was in the Armored Division of the Army. He was very proud of his time served as we are proud of him. He passed away in December 2012 of Alzheimers (and the complications that come with it). I miss him terribly.

My maternal grandpa served during WWII. He drove a tank during the end of the war and also served during part of the occupation of Germany following the war. Unfortunately, he died very young (at the age of 28--not in the war) and my grandma didn't save very many of his things. My aunt tells me that he was serving in Nuremberg during the war crimes trials, but we don't have any of his journals or letters from that time. I've always been so sad that we don't have that. My mom has his military jacket and the flag they received when he died. Those have been prized possessions for many years.

My paternal grandpa wanted to serve but couldn't for health reasons (he had severe scoliosis). But, he worked for the Navy at a nuclear site in Idaho Falls for years and years, so I count that as important service to the country.

Thanks to all the veterans!!

DH has been in for over 23 years now. It's been a good ride, but we're both ready for him to retire next year...

My great grandpa was chaplain (I think he was chaplain, Id have to ask my aunt or uncle on that part) in the army WW1, grandpa on my moms side a photographer in WW2, grandpa on my dads side was military also in WW2 not sure on the branch, dad was air force and while he did not fight in the vietnam war he had duties related to the war. He was also staff photographer for the air force. Stepdad was in Vietnam in the marines. My nephew did two tours of duty in Afghanistan in the army. My sister was also in Afghanistan at the same time. She sustained an injury after getting hit by an army vehicle and had to go to army reserves. My uncle and great uncle were both in the service and fought in WW2 and Vietnam. Another nephew was enlisted in the army and got a medical discharge because of injuries before he deployed. There is likely a lot more because most of the men in my family were in the service at one point in time or another.

My grandfathers served in the military during WW2 - one in Africa and the other in the Pacific.
My Dad did compulsory service in the Army but did not serve overseas.
I served as an Army Medic for 15 years and did operational tours to East Timor and Afghanistan.
