Long story short - lost my old computer to lightning a few summers ago. Got ten years of pics restored from backblaze onto a flash drive. Flash drive is now blank after my 11 year old took it by mistake :crying:
I’m trying to look at the bright side - some pics are on Shutterfly, some on Facebook and I’ve scrapped all those years (although 6-7 years aren’t digital). Still heartbroken but very happy to have my scrapbooks and am now thinking I will go through and take pics of all those non digital pages...

Big hugs! That is so sad and heartbreaking! I can't even imagine! Way to try and stay positive through this.

Oh no! That is so heartbreaking! Props to you for looking at the sliver of brightness though! I misplaced some photos of a particular event and thought I'd lost them forever. I was sad but then I realized I had sent at least some of them to Mary in conversation and was happy to be able to re download them. Sometimes technology is the enemy and sometimes it's your best friend! Here's to hoping you find many pages and photos on your other accounts!
I would cry too. I hope you can get most of them back.
Oh no. I would cry too.
I admire you for trying to stay positive!

I am so sorry you lost your photos. I lost a flash drive that had all the photos from our Disney cruise and all the pages I had scrapped of it. That was only one vacation and I totally wanted to cry. That you can be so positive about losing ten years of photo is really inspiring.

Did he lose the flash drive? or just delete the data? Even if he erased it nothing is ever gone.
I deleted everything off of a digital card a few years ago and it had it recovered and it restored everything. It restored so much that it was scary....I had wiped the card three times and it recovered almost everything I had put on it.

I’m so sorry you lost all your photos.
This happened to me in 2007 and everything before that that wasn’t scrapped or printed was gone. Now I back up everything at least 3 different places. I also keep a flash drive backup at my parents in case of fire.
Seems the only way to learn to do backups routinely is loosing a few memories.

Oh no!! I can't even begin to imagine your pain. I'm so sorry you are going through this and you are trying to stay focused on the positive of it all. This is a great reminder to all of us to back up our photos/hard drives. I know I keep putting mine off. I'm so sorry. Scream and cry. We've got your back

You've probably already thought of this but have you tried one of those programs that restores photos? I restored a bunch of SD cards recently and was amazed at how well it worked. I used EaseUS data recovery which is free.

Oh, no! I hope you can get them back with recovery software. You're lucky to still have the scrapbooks!

I am so so sorry it happened to you. It happened to me too when our house was broken into and they stole my external hard drive :( I love a few years of my life. It was heartbreaking. But thank goodness it was before I had kids.

I do still have the flash drive. We're not exactly sure what happened, but he was looking for a flash drive to load a game on, and he says it was blank when he plugged it into his school laptop. The only thing we can come up with is it got reformatted?!? But I will definitely look into recovering the photos.

I'm not sure where to start for recovery... who (or what type of place) do I call?

Ugh, super duper sucky! I'm ridiculously paranoid this will happen and back up to 3 places. I hope you're able to get your photos recovered!

I would start by researching local places. Most places that deal with computer repair can help you.
Ugh!!! The worst - but I agree, there are probably people that can help you recover this stuff. GOOD LUCK!!

Oh no! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope that you can recover them.
I recently switched from backing up on CDs to a flash drive because I got a nice camera that produces larger file sizes. I liked the CDs not for space or convenience but for the fact that if one was bad, I wouldn't lose all my pics. Now I'm worried about that flash drive. Maybe I should use two different flash drives just in case.

I'm not sure where to start for recovery... who (or what type of place) do I call? There is also downloadable software you can use to try it yourself. I'm going to assume you no longer have a Backblaze account? Because the cheapest option is recovery software, then ordering a new flash drive of photos, then professional recovery. I don't know much about recovery, but the one thing I'd want to research before trying the software is that using it wouldn't adversely affect a professional recovery if the software didn't succeed in recovering the files.
