I was thinking of making some PDF files to add to my blog (tutorials and such) but have never made a pdf file before. I took a quick look at the Adobe website and they offer a subscription - $10 a month (yikes!)? They have a free trial for your first 5 pdf documents, but still.... My assumption was that this could be done free, maybe a free download to do it or something. Is this right, do you have to pay for this?

If you do a Google search for "pdf maker" there's some free ones that come up. I don't know much more about then though because I use the full version of Acrobat.

I use CutePDF Writer (http://cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/Writer.asp). It's free.
eta: How it works is that it's like another printer option. So when you go to print your document you choose CutePDF as the printer and it makes the PDF file and asks you where you want to save it.
I use it also for stuff like printing online receipts to save paper.

thought of another option . . .
openoffice.org (http://www.openoffice.org/)can save documents as PDFs.
PSE4 can save in PDF format so I would think PSE5 would be able to as well?

I use OpenWord (the freeware version of Office), it's really quick and simple.

I do this too and it works fantastically. SO much better than having actual paper around.
