View Full Version : Question for those wanting more specific themed kits

This question stems off of Hilary's post wanting Ramen noodles. (my specialty is not in noodles so this would be a task for another designer.... lol)
For kits like that, which are a little more specific, would you be ok if the designer(s) created kits that are slightly smaller than what we usually do (priced lower obviously due to the smaller size)
If so what would be an acceptable amount of papers/elements?

I think smaller kits for more heavily themed ideas would be fine. I would say paper size, at least 5? With more patterns and then a couple solids. And elements, probably 10? For something very specific, we can always pull more neutral things from other kits- ribbons, stitches, string, leafs. What we really need is the theme specific items or word art to make our pages shine! But that is just my opinion....someone else may think differently!
I would be okay with that.
I have no idea about the amount of papers and elements. Sorry, I am not helping.

I would love speciale mini kits but i will love it even more if you have like a big base kit with dirffrent colors. With some solids, pattern papers etc some journaling cards and lots and lots of flowers. And then releasse now and then a little add on kit in a special theme

I agree, for super themed kits I'd focus on the really themed parts of a kit eg: themed patterned paper, themed elements and themed word art/strips and maybe journalling cards. For the basics I have more than enough even if I have to mix and match designers or do some subtle recolouring.

Love this idea... so maybe a base kit with neutral-ish colors and then add-ons in a variety of themes?

I agree with just about all of this, but I don't think we even need solids. Those can be pulled from any other kit. As for patterned papers, 5 is a good number, or maybe just 4, as long as they are themed. As for the elements, a themed flat ribbon would be good.
Thank you!

I think solids are still a good idea. Think of the beginning scrapper that may not have many kits at all that are looking to scrap about a particular theme. They may not have solids that would go with the kit. Just having a couple solids in a small kit is a good idea. In my beginning days I was very hesitant about using items from different kits... heck, even 16 years later I still am! Putting in 2 or 3 solids would ease that frustration for some. I have several mini kits from over 8 years ago that have no solids... I still haven't used them.
I like the idea of a base kit with smaller add-ons as well.

I think solids do are a good idea. I am i think a lazy scrapper i love to scrap with one kit and not have to look true all my kits to find the perfect fit for a solid paper. I new a designer ones that had a base kit and then made mini add on's i forgett her name she is no longer selling but that whas my favorite kit.

My thinking is that if a small themed kit has 5 papers and 2 or 3 are solid, then I'm missing out on more themed papers. I'm pretty much a one-kit scrapper, but sometimes I don't like the solids that come with the kit (due to the texture), so I grab from another and recolor.

All of the small kits that I have that are specific themes have around 8 to 10 papers. And have between 30 to 50 items in the kit. 2 to 3 solids in a kit of that size would be perfect IMO. Several of those kits have 1 particular element in 4 or 5 colors. That to me is unnecessary since the element isn't even theme specific (a star). 2 colors would be fine.
Grabbing from another kit works for you. Some people don't know how to recolor items. I have passed on buying kits because of not having items that I would use or want. One thing I do look for is solid colors because then I know that the texture of all the papers will be the same.
Just my humble opinion.

Mini kits that are specifically themed would be great. I know we all have specific events that this would be awesome for. I'd say at least 5 patterned papers and 3 solids would be great, as well as 20-30 elements. Maybe an add-on Alpha as a separate kit.
