Ok, I am the worst mama EVER and I feel so awful I could just cry!! :crying:

Cameron, my six-year old, is about to lose his two top front teeth. They've been very wiggly for a while now, but he doesn't like us to mess with them. Well, he went camping with my parents for a few days and when he got back today, one of the teeth was just barely hanging there. Literally.

So after a bunch of begging and pleading and crying (he's a very nervous kid) he finally let me tie a string around it. I even bribed him with a pack of Webkinz Trading Cards. You see, he has baseball tomorrow and I don't want it coming out at the baseball field.

So... the string is tied around his tooth and I give it a good yank, expecting it to pop right out and it doesn't. And he screams. And it starts bleeding and he HATES blood. So he's freaking out and I can't get the string untied from his tooth. I realize that I'm going to have to just yank it off. So I give it a really hard yank hoping that the tooth pops out and it still doesn't but the string does come off (thank god).

So now he's bawling and bleeding and really really mad at me (and I don't blame him) and that damn tooth is still hanging there even more precariously than before. But there is NO WAY he's gonna let me near his mouth again.

I feel so bad. I think it really hurt him. That sucker is really hanging on tight in his mouth.

So, yeah. Bad mama.

ETA: He just came upstairs to play Webkinz and I told him that I was really sorry for hurting him. I started crying (I'm a bit emotional today, if you can't tell lol) and he gave me this look like "ok, crazy lady" and patted the top of my head and said, "its fine" like nothing ever happened. My sweet boy...

LOL, I never did the tooth pulling at our house, just couldn't do it

My daughter did most of hers herself, and my middle son has pulled a few of his own, he is afraid of his dad and like I said I won't do it! Our youngest hasn'et started losing any yet, but I am sure it will start soon enough

Poor both of you. I hope I never have to get to the point of pulling it. I would probably have to get my mom to do it (she used to be a nurse)

FWIW, my DD's first loose tooth was loose for many weeks before it finally came out.....and it was very loose for at least several days so Cameron may have a few more days with it.....

Sounds like my son who is deathly scared of blood and anything yucky and all possibilities of dying (he thinks he can die at the littlest amount of blood, LOL). We had a similar encounter last month - negotiation of pulling the tooth took WEEKS!!! LOL, but I did manage to get the tooth pulled out. :D Goodluck!

Benjamin had one like that, it was literally hanging by a thread, and he could hardly brush his teeth. But he didn't let me anywhere near it. Don't feel bad, I would have expected it to just pop right out also. ((hugs))

Awwww...chin up, mommy!

My kids aren't quite that squeamish, thankfully. Once it's loose like that, I apply a numbing ointment (like orajel) to the area with a qtip, and then once it's doing its thing, I twist the tooth to get it to lose its grip. Sometimes there is a little bit of blood, but it doesn't hurt at all. Fortunately, I've never had to yank. :)

I was reading this, all awww and poor mommy - then I read the "he patted me on the head" and I laughed out loud. My co-worker wants to know what I'm laughing about!

My 6 yr old lost his first one this week too! LITERALLY lost it - it did not make it home from school

So what does the tooth fairy do when there's no tooth to put under the pillow? How does she know that the tooth is gone?

(just want to be prepared in case it happens to us.... :) )

YUCK! I hate teeth. The thought of pulling a tooth makes me a bit queasy! Which is really funny because I loved to pull my own out. I agree with Krystal. My dad used to numb us up, twist the tooth around a few times, squeeze the top of the tooth and pull. The twisting loosens the skin around the tooth and the yanking gets that root (i don't know if that's really what it is) out. and remember that mouth wounds bleed a lot to get rid of excess bacteria. my sister did have one tooth that would NOT come out. It was literally hanging and my dad was holding my sister on his lap to pull the tooth out. He literally pulled himself up off the couch trying to get that sucker out. It wouldn't come out and she was screaming! So she ate a banana and swished it around in her mouth and it popped right out. good luck getting that sucker out.
