This photo. Each and every time I see it, it makes me happy. What should have been a wonderous time had been filled with stress and grief instead. I was so afraid of raising you alone, terrified I couldn't do it by myself. But when you looked at me like this, so calm and trusting, I found my inner peace, my strength and the confidence I needed to go forward, not alone, but with you. I was able to let go of the hurt, the anger and the fear and embrace the joy of having you in my life. I knew being a single mother was going to be tough and that I would make mistakes along the way, but with your trust and love, I knew I could do it. Twenty years later this photo still makes me smile and believe in our little family.
