Have you completely changed your scrapping style?

I'm curious if any of you have like completely changed your scrapping styles? Maybe from more traditional, element heavy layouts to minimalistic pages?

I'd love to see if you've successfully made that transition. Do you love it?

I made the opposite transition. Although I can't say I was really minimalistic, I can say that I'm a curated maximalist for sure now!

Depends on the project I'm working on.

I started out very minimalistic but learned to include more (clusters by Cheryl) over the years. Now I don't scrap element heavy like Cheryl but more in between her style and minimalistic.

I'm finishing up my October Daily project and today was able to do 8 layouts (1 more and I'm done!) because they are minimalistic. Next project will be my vacation to Vermont last October. That will be in my usual style. I just wanted the October Daily to be a quick project.

I also have upped the details since I started scrapping. I look back at my early pages and wonder who made them because I certainly wouldn't use that few details. Slowly getting more maximalist as I feel confident clustering.

I started out as a clean-and-simple style scrapper because I had zero skill at clustering or applying elements to my page. Ever heard the term "sticker sneeze"? Where it looks like someone just sneezed a bunch of elements across the page with no rhyme or reason to it? Yeah, that was me when I tried to get fancy.

So this was largely my "native" scrapbooking style for years:





But I've always loved the look of layered, detailed clusters and the cool effects we're able to create digitally that you can't easily do in a traditional format. It took me a while to figure out how to use layered templates properly - it was actually a couple of @Cheryl Ashcraft's videos that helped me get the hang of how to place flowers and leaves on a template and rotate them and build visual triangles and balance out your colors.

And then my scrapbooking was totally "Level: Unlocked" when I started extracting element clusters from my templates and building my own library that I can mix-and-match on layouts.

I'm still not the most artistically inclined scrapper (after all, I'm a SugarBabe for my writing skills, not my layout ones) but these days, I'm pretty pleased with my more intricate layouts.

I don't know it I really have an exact style. I was originally a paper scrapper then went digital. I was on several CT over the years and so I scrap based on what designers created and how it inspired me. I then started doing Project Life style pages for most of my photos and then scrapping smaller groups of photos based on what inspired me. When I finally returned to scrapping last month after taking off a few years for the most part now many of my pages are inspired by my current life whilke I figure out how I want to catch up and on my Project Life years that are already in progress.

I've definitely changed my style. Like @angiekey my pages had minimal elements - but now, my pages are much fuller. I wouldn't say a maximalist but maybe a happy medium.

I started out 12 years ago with a minimalist style. I didn't know how to cluster or shadow very well. Here's my first and last gallery image for comparison. I fill up the page a lot more than I did when I started out, I am no longer a minimalist.

I also like(d) to explore other scrapping universes, so I have more artsy layouts, pocket pages, minimalistic creations and completely filled out my spread. And from all of these universes there are layouts I loved the way they turned out, but also pages that just didn't work. Everything depends on mood, supplies, inspiration and motivation. Plus every layout in the same style sounds boring to me. I love to explore my own abbilities and possibilities.

I started out very simple & more magazine-style until people started creating digital elements & sharing them in the community. I also used pretty large photos on my pages. These pages were pretty fast to create.

About a decade ago, when my kiddos were still little, I used templates to scrap events & then had more decorated single-photo clustery pages. My single-photo pages had pretty small photos most of the time. I scrapped almost every night once the kids were in bed, and it took between 90-120 minutes to create a page. I was scrapping 3-4 years "behind."

I'm now in a phase where I scrap almost entirely by intuition & by that I mean I rarely think about the rule of thirds, color schemes, etc. It's common for a layout to take no more than 30 minutes to create. After 23 years, I should know what I'm doing, right?! I wouldn't say that I don't care about how they look so much as that I am much more interested in the overall goal of capturing my life's story vs. how to do that in minute detail. I scrap more in "spurts" where I might create 5-6 pages in a day and then not scrap at all for the rest of the week. I wouldn't say that my style is minimal but it's definitely swung back towards that vs. maximalist. I have 2007-2024 entirely scrapped & all of it except for 2023 & 2024 printed as softcover Shutterfly albums. I would say about half of 2025 is scrapped as well as all of my vacation albums except for the one we literally wrapped up this past Tuesday.

I have never changed my digital scrapping style has never changed. It's always been simple, but not white space layouts. However, if I use certain templates or I do certain challenges, they aren't simple.
