we have the same rule..and she turned 13 last May and oh my gosh we've seen so many pg-13 movies this past year to catch up haha

anyways she's seen Twilight and New Moon and loved them both

Well, mine don't count because they're adults, but IMHO, I wouldn't let mine that young watch it Cindy. Mine always thought I was SO mean for not letting them watch certain things. We even fast forwarded scenes in Princess Bride when they were small because I knew it would be too intense for them. They make fun of me now for it, but I remember how sensitive they were.

I never ever went by the ratings though. There were many PG-13 movies that I still felt were inappropriate for 13....sometimes even when my son was 17 I didn't want him seeing some, but I've let them see a lot of R rated ones. I prefer some violence (when they are older) and swearing to so many sexual situations. I would almost always see the movie first, or read as many reviews on them.

You know your own kids. Watch it first and then you'll know if you feel it would be too much. It would've been for my kids at age 7....maybe not so much at 10 or 11.

Again...I never ever went by the ratings. I think they should just be rated on a scale for different things (violence, sex, language, drug use, etc...) but not give an age.

That's why I love http://www.kids-in-mind.com/om for movie reviews :)

It spells out exactly what's in the film, and we can make the decisions based off that info. It often gets too nitpicky, but that's okay.

LOL Kellie! My thought yesterday when I saw this thread was "no, because I wouldn't want to subject children to that bad of acting." :D

Shawna 04-08-2010 12:20 PM

My girls are 6 and 8.5 and I would let them watch them. My oldest has asked to watch Twilight and I told her we could watch it sometime (we have them both on DVD), not sure if my younger one would be too interested but I'd be okay with her watching with us.

Growing up my parents pretty much let us watch whatever we wanted so I've been watching Rated movies for forever now so Twilight/New Moon doesn't seem like too much of a big deal to me compared to some of the movies I watched at their ages.

mummytothree 04-08-2010 12:47 PM

No and my kids are 12, 8, 5, 2 and 6 months.

All of DD's friends (12 y/o) have read the books but I haven't let her yet. Maybe in a few years!

I've always loved Kids In Mind, I used it ALL the time when my kids were little. I just wish they had ALL movies. I haven't found another site as good.

Sarah8914 04-08-2010 02:09 PM

I've never used kids in mind! I'll have to check that out!

I use screenit.com. It is free you just have to scroll down and say no thanks or something. I think it has ALL movies.

4noisyboys 04-08-2010 02:31 PM

I used screenit a lot too when my boys were younger. I just wanted to know what was actually in it.

and LOL Kellie! Yeah...I would prefer that too! They were pretty bad, but I still went and saw them! The acting is no worse than the writing of the books though...and even the poor writing didn't keep me from reading them all. I must be a sucker for punishment!

DS is 7 and DD is 1 :p and neither of them have seen it. DS doesn't even show an interest in it and I can't say I would let him watch it if he did.

davec777 04-08-2010 02:56 PM

None of my kids have seen them - boy 16, boy 14 and daughter 10 and boy 5. I haven't let my daughter read the books even though she says that her friends have read them. I think the books/movies are designed for an older audience, and I don't think she needs to be into that right now. My boys are completely uninterested =) I personally saw Twilight and wasn't very impressed. Still wavering on whether to get New Moon from Redbox....

Mine have no interest (6 & 4) but I wouldn't let her watch it even if she wanted to. iCarly is as far as I go. :D

Jengerbread88 04-08-2010 04:52 PM

commonsensemedia.org is another pretty good site. I really like kidsinmind. I bookmarked that one!

xboxmom 04-08-2010 06:05 PM

Yes my 9 year old daughter thinks they are the best ever and she is in the middle of reading them now too.

I like Jacob and think he's cute, too. :P

Technically, DS has seen Twilight but, he's 2 so he hasn't 'seen' it, he wasn't old enough to reallt get it when it came out on DVD. However, we are begining to be more careful of what we let him see since he's taken to repeating anything we don't want him to! LOL

Sheana 04-09-2010 01:36 AM

My girls are 8 and almost 6 and they haven't seen them- and won't anytime soon. My oldest DD is interested in Twilight and says her friends have watched it.. all of her friends also watch Sponge Bob and have facebook accounts and we don't allow that either. :)

bdances 04-09-2010 12:30 PM

Nope I have not watched it. :(

OMG Brooklyn! It's so good to see you over here, too... not many familiar faces here! :)

Dani Jane 04-09-2010 04:43 PM

My kids have seen both Twilight and New Moon many times now and they are 6 (almost 7) and 9 and they love them. They are clean PG13 movies no different than Spiderman or Ironman or Fantastic Four or anything else. I am totally addicted I have read breaking dawn 6 times and Twilight 5 times and Eclipse 4 times and New Moon twice...lol...I am team Edward and my daughter (6) is team Jacob...she says he is hot, lol..and I will be viewing Eclipse and Breaking Dawn before my kids will view either movie, just as I did with Twilight and New Moon and they definitely haven't read the books and won't be anytime soon, lol :)
