That is really scary! Happy to know that the baby is ok! He's precious! Congrats!

cardinalskate 07-13-2011 06:51 AM

Oh Jenn, he's beautiful! Welcome Zach!

I can't believe all you went through. I can't believe something that major was missed so many times and for so long. That's scary! And that nurse....grrrr! Women don't feel contractions in their backs?!?! That's ridiculous! Not only is every woman different, back labor is very well-known! Sounds like she just didn't like you from the beginning and wanted to contradict all of your symptoms.

Glad to hear you'll be alright, as will Zach. And you can cross the "next pregnancy" situation when you get to it. You know you could do it, and they'll probably be better prepared next time, too, whenever that time comes! So glad he's here healthy!

mariewilcox 07-13-2011 07:07 AM

Congrats on your precious baby boy! I'm glad everything turned out okay.

SweetMelissa 07-13-2011 07:15 AM

First congrats on the little man! He is so handsome!!! Then oh my goodness that sounds so scary! I would def lodge a complaint about the rude nurse. When I went to have Rachel (now 2 & 1/2) my nurse was really rude. Even telling me to "shut up" if I made any kind of sound during a contraction. She had me in tears a few times and I just hated her.

rachaelsscraps 07-13-2011 07:17 AM

Wow Jenni, that's crazy! I'm so glad you and your adorable little guy are okay! And congratulations!!! He is so cute!!! (And you can put that nightmarish pregnancy behind you now, yay! :) )

cbettua 07-13-2011 07:58 AM

Well Thank God that you had the mind to fight! Congratulations on your precious little boy and I'm glad you are doing better!

ariesfl326 07-13-2011 09:43 AM

I think I'd have to go back and punch that nurse in the face!!! People like that should not be in the health profession!

Anyway, I'm soooo happy that everything worked out for you and you will be fine. Congrats on your new little bundle...he's precious and truly a miracle!!

knlchevys 07-13-2011 09:55 AM

tanyiadeskins 07-13-2011 10:29 AM

AmyG 07-13-2011 12:01 PM

Congrats-he is gorgeous! Look at all that hair!

So glad you listened to your body and gut, that will serve you so well as a Mommy. You make sure that snotty nurse gets a review with someone at the hospital! Rest up :hugs:

scrapperjade 07-13-2011 02:06 PM

Oh my goodness Jenni - that sounds terrifying! I would definitely be looking for a way to report your hag nurse! And what the heck was she talking about when she said you don't feel contractions in your back? That's what Back Labor is, and it's very real. She sounds like a real piece of work.

I'm glad that both you and little Zach are doing well and you'll make a full recovery! Congrats on your handsome little man!!

dana 07-13-2011 03:11 PM

oh my - what a crazy, horrible story! but sooooo glad that it ends well and you have an adorable little baby boy :) enjoy!

and - i've had two children and i've ONLY had back labor - i've never once felt a contraction in my stomach area! w/ the first, they couldn't even use a normal monitor to track contractions (b/c there weren't any in my belly) - so they had to use an internal monitor (ughho - that meant i couldn't walk around! and it was not too comfortable LOL! my natural birth plans went down the toilet at that point ... ) ...

Libby Pritchett 07-13-2011 03:50 PM

Awwww Jenni! I'm sorry you've been through so much, and I'm glad you listened to your body! Big hugs and congrats!!!!

CA Dreamer 07-13-2011 03:54 PM

Congrats! Enjoy your little one! So sorry they were so mean.

kim21673 07-13-2011 04:00 PM

OMG! What a story!! I am glad you and baby are ok! What a horrible way to be treated. ((Hugs))

Congrats on your baby boy!! Enjoy every minute of him!!!

pewtertm 07-13-2011 04:54 PM

That whackjob of a nurse has no business working around patients with that kind of attitude! Women don't feel contractions in their back? Um, hello? I only wish that were true, but I had 40 hours of miserable back labor (Rachel flipped over 1 hour into the 3 hour delivery).

I'm so glad that the doctor finally realized what was happening, and that you both came through alright. Enjoy that new little bundle, and rest up while you can!

Nonna2Dreja 07-13-2011 06:11 PM

Jenni, though I am sorry that you had to go through all of this, with it being so serious, I am so thankful that you are able to share your story--it may help someone else and save their life! Thank God you knew your body and that you kept going back, insisting they see you! You have a beautiful baby boy who will grow up feeling so very loved....

Leah 07-13-2011 09:23 PM

Congratulations!!

chloe 07-14-2011 02:21 AM

Wow, what a scary story!! I'm glad you both are okay, he's lovely! Congrats!!!

aly321 07-14-2011 02:45 AM

Unbelievable! So glad that everything is ok. Congrats on a sweet baby boy!

sevenupps 07-14-2011 12:30 PM

Congrats on your sweetie and GOOD FOR YOU for standing up for yourself! I've had similar situations and you got guts, girl!

Lauramarie 07-14-2011 02:54 PM

Wow Jenni, what a scary thing to go through and that nurse needs to change her profession. I would never be a waitress because I know I could not serve people. Some women have either been nursing way too long and lose their compassion or they were never cut out for it in the first place. I had one horrible nurse when I had my son and I even complained about her. I had him at one of the top hospitals so bad nurses are a no no.
Anyway, I am so glad your ok and so glad Zachary is here and fine too.

Davita 07-14-2011 07:36 PM

I am so glad that you are OK. I want all of those rude and unhelpful medical professionals fired. That is horrible but.....your little Zach is perfection. What a beautiful little boy. Congrats!!!!!

yari 07-14-2011 07:42 PM

Oh my gosh! What an amazing story!! I am so glad that you are still around and your baby too and that things are fine now! So glad you listened to yourself because you are the expert of your body. :)

Jengerbread88 07-14-2011 09:48 PM

We complained about the triage nurse with the floor manager. She is going to do something about it, because it's a patient safety issue (she was trying to send me home when my pulse was 170... so yeah, DEFINITE safety issue).

We did also make sure to comment positively on the EXCELLENT nurses we had (we had some really fantastic ones that have just taken excellent care of me and gone above and beyond the call of duty). I always think it's important to let them know what wonderful things have happened, as well as what sucky things have.

As for Zach...
He's doing well. He has a little bit of jaundice, so they may or may not have to put him under the lamp. The nurses say that some of that depends on when my milk supply comes in- milk can help push the jaundice out quickly, so it just depends on whether the milk gets through sooner than he hits the 90th percentile, or not.
His weight went down. It kind of freaked me out- no one told me that their weight drops before they gained it!!! Lol, but, now I've been reassured. First time mom, of course...

Giseli Freitas 07-14-2011 11:15 PM

I'm am so glad to hear that from you! That you're fine! Congratulations, he's ADORABLE! xoxo

sugirox 07-14-2011 11:25 PM

It sure sounds like a nightmare!! So glad you are okay and Little Zach is adorable!!

Jengerbread88 07-16-2011 04:43 PM

Just to update anyone who was wondering:

-Zach is fine. He had some e. Coli in his eye, but it didn't get into his bloodstream, and his vision won't be impacted. He is completely healthy.

-I am not out of the woods yet, or the hospital. I'm here at least through tomorrow, probably through Monday. I have an enlarged heart, which I just used to tell my family that I've got that big heart I've always told them I've had. ;)
I also have thick heart walls, which is what caused the failure. I guess the normal heart ejects 60% of it's capacity when it beats... mine was ejecting 40%. They also did this test to see how my heart was performing. A normal score doesn't go over 300. Mine was at 2700. So, clearly, things aren't okay.
They have had me on blood pressure medication, but it only dropped my pressure a little bit. My heart rate is around 110 (It was 170 the night I was admitted). They've decided to switch up my BP meds and see if something else works. So... who knows?
I also have been on this medicine that is supposed to get the fluid off of my lungs. It does this by getting rid of fluid the most obvious way possible... peeing. The cardiologist's exact quote was "Have you peed your brains out yet? I want you to pee out your 4th grade education. If you get to where you forget how to spell cat, we've had you pee about enough." Lol.

-They're now having me walk around, and they're weighing me every day to see if the fluid is coming off. If I continue to stay off of the oxygen (it's down to as-needed at this point, and I'm 2 days oxygen free!), and if I lose weight and it becomes clear I'm losing the fluid off of me, then they'll give me the go-ahead to leave the hospital.

So... they're hoping I'll be home MAYBE tomorrow, more likely Monday or Tuesday.

I agree definitely on the above!!!

....and wow I realized part way through your story that I was holding my breath ... how very very scary!!! Glad your son is ok and he didn't seem to suffer. wow! {{{hugs}}} on the experience!

DawnMarch 07-16-2011 07:26 PM
