Noom?

I was curious if anyone has used Noom and / or had success with it ...

I downloaded the app and signed up for it a few days ago. It seems clunky to me - (basically, it's all tracked through an app) - maybe because I'm not one to be on my phone a lot and I have a hard time typing (texting) without taking forever.

It requires tracking of food through the app. The meals I had for the 3 days I used it required me to search elsewhere for calorie counts - which I wasn't keen on. Maybe if I were eating prepared foods it would look them up for me ...

I was hoping it would be quick and easy, but I didn't find it to be that way.

I'll be interested in how it goes for you Jill. I don't know anyone who has done it and I've seen the ads online a lot but they don't give a lot of info so it's hard to know what their plan really is. Good luck to you!

No noom for me. My husband uses something but I can’t remember what it is. He loves it and loves how it keeps track of everything. When he comes home this evening I’ll ask him

Did you know that Noom is my maiden last name ??? Every single time I see the add for that program, I wonder how they came up with that name. I use WW myself and love it. Somehow I haven't lost any weight lately (something to do with my bowls, TMI ;)) but they recently changed their program and you can now chose between 3 different programs. So one will probably suit you.

Wendy, is your husband by any chance using Lifesum ?? That is free and also a great app to lose weight. I found that when I use a free app though...i tend to cheat sooner. LOL So when I have to pay for a program, I am more strict :)

I would love to see how it works for you. I have thought about trying noom myself but I wanted to see how it works first

MyFitness Pal also has a phone app and does well with stored information for calorie and nutrition info

I'm very interested to hear how you do with it, Jill. I've been tempted to try it, but haven't had enough motivation.

I've never heard of Noom.

When I'm being good, I use My Fitness Pal, both the phone and online versions. It's free, but there is a paid version if you want additional info, particularly a complete list of nutrients; I find that the free version gives plenty of nutrition information. It stores your foods, whether you find them in your database or add your own recipes. I've been using it on and off for about 4 years.

Good luck!

I'm doing it, and I'm down 10lbs in 9 weeks. It is clunky, and I think their food database is flawed, but I'm using it for the articles mostly. I really like the way they use the colors to categorize how to portion your food, and that's helped me to think differently about the food I'm eating.
If you're mostly using it for the food database, you could use My FitnessPal for free, and get a better user system. But you'd miss out on the articles and the goal specialist.

Sorry, this is kind of all over the place, but hopefully this helps!

I find most of those sites to be a waste of money, I shop the outer isles in the grocery (AKA non processed food area) drink a gallon of water daily and have started going to the gym and working with a trainer. My workouts are 30 minutes mix of palates and weights 3 times a week for 30 min. I’m down to a size 4 from a 10 since December. I find it’s less about calorie counting and more about no sugars or processed foods and staying active. It also has my skin glowing.

I've heard of Noom and was curious at first, but the one person I know of who tried it said the calorie allowances were too low to be sustainable for her. She strongly prefers WW.

I was curious about Noon. I tried to find info about it without joining and the only thing I really found mentioned using different size bowls? Thanks for starting the discussion as I'd love to hear what people say.

I've found that anything you can stick with works. ;D

Biancka, not only do I cheat if I use a free version, I cheat if I don't have to go in and weigh in! I need the accountability. I can't tell you how long I paid for WW app without using it. But I"m having success with WW too. Down 81 lbs in 10 months!! I no longer have high BP and am off my BP medication. That is a win in itself! And my eating healthier is so much a part of my daily life now that I know how to eat healthfully and am determined to continue. Hoping I stick with it this time!

Wow, you are doing awesome !!! For me, WW is the way to go. I've tried other diets but it is too much of a change in what you can eat so that when I go back to, what I call, 'normal' food, I gain weight again. So frustrating. Sounds like you got the 'click', like we call it and I am certain you are going to continue and be a WW succes story !

JillW 03-05-2020 05:00 PM

So many success stories here! Way to go ladies - your hard work definitely is paying off!!

I cancelled Noom already - it was $124 for 6 months (one lump sum) and that seemed a lot to me for a program that I didn't find handy or all that useful! Funny, because when I cancelled, I received an immediate pop up that said they could change the fee to much less than what I'd signed up for - that truly, was another turn off for me.

I do have a goal to lose 40 pounds by August and have started wearing my Galaxy watch to track steps, etc. I've totally fallen off of the "stay hydrated" wagon. I used to drink 80 ounces a day but some days now I don't think I drink 40 ounces! It's such an easy thing to do and makes so much of a difference ... silly not to just do it!!

This is totally me. I'm trying to find foods I enjoy that are healthy and that I can live with ... forever ... !

The thing that has been the hardest for me to give up is Coke. I drink one small bottle a day - I know there is a ton of sugar in it (I don't do diet), but I really really jones it mid-morning! I need to dig down deep and find more will power!

Yes! We were advised not to make changes and eat things we were not willing to keep eating. That really clicked with me and it has made a difference. Like you and your coke, there are things we are unwilling to give up, so we have to make room for them (in moderation, of course) in our everyday lives! If you can make it work drinking a little bit of Coke every day, then go for it! Good luck! I know how hard it is!

Maybe I'll see your success scrapped some day soon! Biancka too! I forget who else said they were losing, so apologies if I've forgotten someone!

I tried WW and that just didn't seem to click with me either, but I may give it another try! I worked w/ a coach last year, lost 15 pounds and the decided I'd do it on my own, started working out and walking and then threw out my back. Well, needless to say, I gained everything back! I'm just disgusted with myself and haven't found the umph I need to try again.
