Please share your teacher Christmas ideas!!!

I've procrastinated long enough, school is out on Friday and it's time to do or die LOL. Here is my dilemma though. We have 2 teachers, 3 aides and 1 speech therapist. (and 1 bus driver/2 bus monitors but they'll likely just get a dozen cookies each). I want to get the two teachers, three aides and speech therapist all the same gift or a variation on it but one of the aides is a guy :)

I want to make the gifts.

Please help!

isaacsmom 12-12-2011 05:35 PM

I will be watching this thread as well...hope somebody has some fabulous ideas!!! Cause I have majorly procrastinated -- and I've got quite a few to do also!!!

Joana1n 12-12-2011 05:56 PM

I saw a cute pin on pinterest (which is NOT loading now ) that had an inexpensive ceramic plate from WalMart with a dry erase marker attached to the back of it and the whole set-up was sitting on an easel.

sczos911 12-12-2011 05:59 PM

We are doing mugs with hot coco and flavored coffee, spoons dipped in chocolate & decorated by the girls along with pretzel rods dipped and biscotti dipped. :) We'll be dipping on Saturday. :)

KimberlyMorris 12-12-2011 06:00 PM

I think I'm going to do fuzzy sock cupcakes. Something like this with a Christmas theme.

Tracyfish 12-12-2011 06:02 PM

Well my thought was to make fortune cookies with the slips of paper inside to have things L.J. likes about his teacher on them. Walmart and Target both had really cute "take-out" type Christmas boxes. Since I don't have time this week to make them they will be done for Teacher Appreciation instead.

I am going with a gift box with fuzzy socks, hot cocoa, chocolate candy and a gift card.

Just thought I'd throw that idea out there.

I like this idea, too!

SmallMoments 12-12-2011 06:13 PM

These were what I was GOING to do, but instead I just packaged up some of my homemade hot cocoa and I'm giving them that. :)

I REALLY wanted to do this, but couldn't find cheap whisks ANYWHERE. So weird!

I homeschool, so I don't have to do the gift thing for bunches of teachers, but I know from talking with my friends who are/were teachers that gift cards are what they really want. Maybe a small gift card to somewhere like Starbucks, Amazon, or a Juice/Smoothie place WITH one of these apples would be a cute way to show thoughtfulness without spending a ton (if you wanted to step it up you could even make it a candy apple or a caramel one rolled in holiday sprinkles):

I made these last year using this printable....
It had movie munchies and a GC to a local pizza place

MommaTrish 12-13-2011 12:20 AM

cookies here as well. Christmas time is about the only time you will ever find me baking. lol

rach3975 12-13-2011 12:24 AM

I hear you, Lena! One of my kids has 4 teachers and 4 therapists, plus each of the other kids has 1 teacher. I do gift cards at the end of the year, but with so many people to thank I can't do it twice. Today I bought some cute cookie tins at Michael's for under $2 each, and I'll be filling them with brownie bites (baked in a mini-muffin pan with colorful paper liners). I'll scrap a tag and maybe a coordinating post-it note holder.

Some years when there were fewer people to make for I've done notebook/bookmark/magnet sets like this:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...t_rach3975.jpg

or a $5 giftcard and inexpensive decorated candle in a bucket:

I'm on my phone so I can't link but I'm pretty sure I am going to make Swedish hearts out of felt and put a gc to target in the heart. :)

Julie Billingsley 12-13-2011 01:19 AM

I'm making this plus a Target gift card

Oh my word. Sometimes I wonder about my brain. This is what I did for Luke's teacher this year. LOL

pixelstix 12-13-2011 10:44 AM

Loving all the fun ideas! Our state just (like last month) passed a new ethics law banning public employees from receiving gifts. Last year was our first year in school and I did a gift card and a treat for his teacher, but this year we can't so I've got to think of something not lame for them (two this year). We can only give things with a small monetary value.

HeatherKS 12-13-2011 10:57 AM

Love this thread! We usually do dipped pretzel rods and a gift card for our teachers at Christmas but this year I'm doing Darcy's font service and a sock cupcake instead. The girls are excited about the cupcakes and I'm excited about the font service. LOL

I've also done the custom travel mugs from Starbucks and did the inserts with Penny's templates and photos of the teacher's family. (This only works if you happen to know the teacher's family and can get some photos on the sly. ;)) They loved them. :)

xboxmom 12-13-2011 11:27 AM

Oh I am so stealing that Whisk and Blueberry muffin idea! Awesome Thanks! We have a business Costco here so anything that a restaurant would use or other businesses they have and its super cheap! So I know where I will be going today. hehehe Thanks everyone!

Okay I have a few ideas for you to try...
First I did this for my son's kindy teacher but I had some more planning time - An ABC Gift Basket. I got all the parents to participate then assigned out letters. The gifts have been cute... A Quote Book for Q, Wine for W...etc. But don't think you have enough time for this. So here are a few other options.

Our teachers love it when the kids bring in books to add to their class libraries. Maybe you could do that too and include some cute "From the Library Of Mrs. so-in-so stickers to be put on the books. I get our books from the flea market and I can get great chapter books for $1-$2 each and the teachers really could care less that they are used. It's a win-win for everyone!!!

We did gift card trees in all the elementary classes this year so I didn't have the option to make something b/c we kind of had to buy a gift card. However, for the Teen Grouper Leaders I'm still looking for a cool gift that isn't pricey and is easy. Maybe decorated candles in a jar. Homemade gifts are not a big hit around here.

kscwgirl 12-13-2011 10:51 PM

Well mine are kind of out of control b/c I forgot that I bought them both Christmas stuff at Yankee Candle outlet in Branson this summer....... sigh.

So. They are both getting a personalized ornament, a Yankee Candle book w/ votives, a mug with a bag of Santa's Trail Mix inside and a matching votive holder.

Um Mandy.. I LOVE THIS. I totally want to use it for her end of year gift. Could you tell me what you used for the other letters???

kristijoy 12-13-2011 11:43 PM

My 5 year old and I made peppermint bath salts together!

KyRainbow 12-14-2011 01:18 AM

My dd is in the 8th grade and teacher gifts aren't really "cool" so I called my aunt who owns a gourmet cupcake bakery and ordered 2 dozen to take for them to share in all of her Christmas flavors.

jaylensmom 12-14-2011 11:01 AM

my son's teacher is a little different...i may just get her a gift card to target...

I think I'm doing these for my friends. What I had planned was a big fat FAIL (that I wasted money on), so now I need something cheap and fast.

mlrw70 12-15-2011 10:44 PM

Okay Lena, what did you end up doing?

SeattleSheri 12-16-2011 12:07 AM

We have 5 before/after school teachers and two school teachers to gift. They are all getting a card with a box of chocolates (valued at around $10 each). One of the teachers wrote our son a letter of recommendation for the advanced placement program and has really gone the extra mile, so he's getting a $25 gift card.

Melissa Bennett 12-16-2011 12:03 PM

I actually made teachers gifts this year!! The snowman pencils and acrylic frame post it note holder are both ideas I got from pinterest. Hope they like them, I was up until 3 am. LOL!!

rachaelsscraps 12-19-2011 12:09 PM

I finally realized that my son can give his teacher one of the hundred keyfobs that I've made! lol! :) I am having him dip pretzels in regular and white chocolate and then roll in sprinkles, so I'll probably have him bring some of those in to her too.

Lyd 12-21-2011 06:14 PM

I ended up making those cute fuzzy sock cupcakes and paired them with a GC to Target for my boys' teachers. Well, I just got an e-mail from Ian's teacher thanking me for the gift and telling me that she got a "kick" out of them. Thanks for the great idea gals!

maryinaz 12-21-2011 08:15 PM

Thanks to this thread, I ended up doing this idea by Juli, for my friends, I loved her idea to add a calendar and I also added rhinestones for the center of the flowers - they loved them! (You can see the other months in my gallery.)

Wow, they turned out wonderful!

LenaGardner 12-21-2011 08:50 PM

This is what I ended up doing!

For the kids' classmates. I did 34 of these, and I didn't get the idea from anywhere LOL I just came up with it on my own and measured the Play-Doh label and replaced it.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/2-2.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/1-2.jpg

I did these for the teachers/aides/therapists/secretary. I made 7 of them :)

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/3-2.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/4-2.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/5-2.jpg

The kids had a decent haul to take with them on the last day of school LOL.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/6-2.jpg

And I made these for the bus driver and two bus aides. Inside was more cocoa fixins! You can't see it in this photo but to the right of the bus is a chalkboard that says, "Thank you for all you do!". It needed be a little less personalized because I don't know all their names!

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...20Lena/7-1.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...e%20Lena/8.jpg

rach3975 12-21-2011 09:18 PM

What great gifts! I ended up doing tins full of homemade brownie bites and Target gift cards for the 5 main teachers and just small tins of brownies for the therapists that only see my DS a couple of hours a month.

https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com...r_rach3975.jpg

jacinda 12-21-2011 09:18 PM

Lena those are awesome! I bet the bus drivers really appreciated being thought of too.

LenaGardner 12-23-2011 07:40 PM

Thanks, Jacinda! They really did. Actually, the bus was THIRTY minutes late on that day, too. There was "an issue with a student" (that's all they told me). So they were especially grateful! :)
