Book suggestions

Quite a few of you said (in my hobbies post) that your hobby was reading. I’m *always* looking for another book or manga or comic book or whatever it is with words and a good story to read!

Hit me with your suggestions. Any suggestions! Just needs to be a good story.

This Is How It Always Is, The Mother In Law, Shelter In Place. Really enjoyed all of these!

Harry Potter series
Where The Crawdads Sing
A Quiet Life In The Country
The Boy Between Worlds
Good Omen (really good and funny)
The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King are part of a trilogy, the third book is coming out by November
The Last To See Me
Good Luck CharmThe Last House Guest

I love mythology so if you haven't yet, Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is really really good.

I also like mermaids, so I would recommend, To Kill A Kingdom and The Syrena Legacy series.

If you like some sappy, love story, I would recommend Nicholas Sparks books, Five Feet Apart.

I'm a prime member on Amazon, so every month they have a free (to own) book they give out, and they have yons of free books that you can borrow, although most that I know liked scribd better (as for the choices).

I also read comics and I'm obsessed with Afterlife with Archie and American Gods.

I am currently reading book 6 in the Outlander series. I love it! It's historical fiction. (Also love the show) In truth, I'm a bit obsessed with the books and show. LOL
I am also reading Healthy Trim Mama right now.... maybe gonna try the plan to be a little healthier.

I read (twice) The Bear and the Nightingale series by Katherine Arden. It's three books. They are based on Russian fairy tales. LOVED them!!

I read almost anything! Harry Potter is a great series too!

Other good reads:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Before We were Yours
The Light between Oceans
The Handmaids Tale
What Alice Forgot
Strange The Dreamer
Into the Water

The top 4 books I read in 2018 were:
Where the Crawdads Sing
Stay With Me
Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend
My Absolute Darling (*uncomfortable/disturbing read)

So far this year (besides re-reading Harry Potter aloud to my son), only one book I've read has "earned" a spot on my this year's favorites list:
The Two Family House

I just started Before We Were Yours.

Thanks everyone! I finished reading the attack on titan manga (what’s out and translated to English anyway), and went straight to the tapestry series, and then the blue sword and the hero and the crown, I’m reading armada now but it will end quickly and I need to put books on hold so I don’t have a wait time with nothing to read haha! I will be reading all of these!

I've recently finished:

The Three Dark Crown series
The Summer Guest
A Dangerous Act of Kindness
Lilac Girls
The Abbot's Tale
Unplanned
Mrs. Kennedy & Me
The Falcon of Sparta

All are ones I'd recommend on some level :)

I really enjoyed the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It's not raunchy like some of the other paranormal romance books can be. (Not throwing stones because I've read and enjoyed the others, too!)

I LOVED Before We Were Yours. It made me incredibly sad in parts, but it was a good read!

I just finished Daisy Jones and the Six.

I have tried to read Where the Crawdads Sing all year but can't get into it. I might listen to it instead.

I have a whole list but I read a lot of thriller/psychological suspense books.

kristalund 08-11-2019 08:42 AM

anything by
Laura Dave
Diane Chamberlain
Colleen Hoover

joelsgirl 08-11-2019 07:14 PM

I'm with those who recommended Where the Crawdads Sing & Before We Were Yours. Another one I couldn't put down was The Nightingale.

I read the Harry Potter series for the first time as an adult, and JK Rowling is SUCH a good storyteller. I also love the Hunger Game trilogy; the story is so, so good.

If you like non-fiction, I recommend anything by Malcolm Gladwell. Earlier this year, I read The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking, and it was really good.

My last recommendation, if you have an audible account, is for Brene Brown's The Power of Vulnerability. She is at her best speaking to an audience, and this talk is full of so much truth.

The first chapter or two is very slow, too much detail but it does get better!

I LOVE Anne!!! I have read the series quite a few times! I was just quoting the first book to a friend who is reading it for the first time! And I love to watch Anne of Green Gables too! The one from the 80's with Meagan Follows is the best!

A really good one I read recently was The Bride Test. I don's usually do romance per say BUT this one is about an autistic man and a girl that comes over from Vietnam. It was so great to read a fresh take on a story. You also get a new perspective seeing how things like regular touch, or words, etc, how it affects someone and how people deal... its just a good, heartwarming story. Well worth the read.

Another really good, heartwarming story is The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen 83 1/4 yrs old. This is a story of an old man and is little friend gang and the things that going on the home they live in. Great read. I cried, I laughed... check it out

I waited months to get it from my digital library, and when I finally got it, I just couldn't get it into it, either. And since I only had 2 weeks to read it, I just returned it. Why spend time trying to read a book I don't like when there are literally hundreds of books on my TBR list? :w00t:

Tree City 08-27-2019 09:23 AM

The Night Circus
The Paper Magician (it's a series; PM is the first)
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
Ladies Who Punch
The Sound of Gravel [trigger warning: there is trauma, death, and multiple forms of abuse in this memoir]
Normal People
Any of the Tess Monaghan novels by Laura Lippman
My Sister, the Serial Killer
