iPhone 5 and those wanting iPhone4/4s

preorders for the 5 start Friday..you can also get the 4s for $99 and the 4 FREE with a 2yr contract now :)

I'm sitting this round out since I just got a 4s in the spring but I know some of you were wanting the new phones!

nikkiARNGwife 09-12-2012 05:32 PM

We got our 4(s) right before the 4s came out last year..we still have another year on our contract..but I'm happy with my 4 right now. The new one looks cool though

BrattyMeg 09-12-2012 05:37 PM

looks kind of weird shaped? It's narrower/longer and you have to get an adapter for the charger to use it with chargers you might already have for the old phones. I would love the long battery life it's supposed to have though

NeverendingJen 09-12-2012 05:48 PM

I really want the 5, but I'm not due for an upgrade until next fall, so I guess I am sitting this round out unless I win the lottery, lol

Julie Billingsley 09-12-2012 05:53 PM

I'm preordering the 5 for myself and my husband! We've never had smartphones, so this will be all new for us.

Traci Reed 09-12-2012 05:53 PM

P's excited, he's getting a 5 ASAP!

How exciting!!

I just got my 4S in January so I'm stuck with it for a bit.

SmallMoments 09-12-2012 06:57 PM

Yep... I'm another that just got my 4s this year. I'm super happy with it and don't have any intention of upgrading........ yet. :)

yari 09-12-2012 07:05 PM

I want the 5 and will be getting it too. My local AT&T store they don't have anything about it yet since Apple is so "secretive". Duh! With reason! Everything they put out is awesome! Hehe. But anyway, yes as soon as I can I'm getting it. :)

well it was introduced today by Apple so they should have the info now :) It's available for preorder starting Friday

Shawna 09-12-2012 07:11 PM

We just got our 4S's in February so we have awhile til we are eligible for full upgrades (like Sept. 2013 I think) so I haven't even bothered looking at the 5 much! I'm super happy with my 4S though!

Lyd 09-12-2012 07:11 PM

I'll be getting a 5 as well. So excited! But, I have to wait until October. That's when I'm eligible for an upgrade. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

scrappurple 09-12-2012 07:16 PM

I wanted towait to see if they were coming out with a 5 back in the spring and dh said they weren't. I told him I would be mad at him if he was wrong (which he hardly ever is, but don't tell him I said that. ;) ). So needless to say ... I am mad. :p I am "stuck" with my 4s ... :D

cardinalskate 09-12-2012 07:19 PM

So, if you ARE eligible for upgrade, how much does it cost you, out-of-pocket? And if you weren't eligible, yet still wanted to get it, how much we talkin'?

krystalhartley 09-12-2012 07:26 PM

Totally getting the 5. So excited to upgrade from my 4.

ripal 09-12-2012 07:29 PM

If you're eligible for upgrade, it's $200.

I'll be eligible on 11/1. Hopefully, all the rush will be over with by then! :) However, I'm still debating if I should stay with Android or move over to iPhone. My HTC Evo works perfect even after almost 2 yrs. I have no complain about it. Actually, this is the first phone I've really LOVED other than StarTec (remember those? I used make and repair them!)! And I've been dealing with cell phones since '89! Back when they used to be called brick phones! LOL

Alright then! Imma go back tomorrow and ask and pre-order! :) THanks Meg!

LibbysMommy 09-12-2012 07:33 PM

Will be getting a 5 in January when I'm eligible for an upgrade. I can't wait!!!!

lovely1m 09-12-2012 07:53 PM

I got the 4s when they first came out last year, was it November? I have to wait 20 months to upgrade, so maybe next summer? I want it now though, but I will not be upgrading until I can.

nun69 09-12-2012 07:57 PM

I have a Droid but we are eligible for a upgrade in Dec I think, so I think I am going to get a 5...treat to myself!!!!

Depending on the size you want anywhere from $199 to $399. I'm not sure how it works if you aren't eligible to upgrade.

ColleenSwerb 09-12-2012 08:19 PM

Without an upgrade those suckers are like $600. 0_o

I got a 4 last October/November, so I'm not eligible until June. Sad. Then I'll probably wait until the NEXT next one next fall, lol.

MamaBee 09-12-2012 08:41 PM

My hubby has been chopping at the bit for the 5 to come out - he has been working extra radio shifts to get money for them... so we will be getting them this fall. I've been ready for an upgrade for the last 2 years... this will be my first smart phone... and hubby will be upgrade from a driod... he is so excited - like a kid at Christmas!! I just want a better cell-phone camera... haha

SeattleSheri 09-12-2012 09:01 PM

Thanks for posting this because I hadn't gotten around to seeing when the 5 would actually become available, etc ... our 2 year contract expired a little over a week ago and we've been waiting for the announcement to get iPhones. We haven't decided if we'll just go with the 4S or get the 5.

maryinaz 09-12-2012 09:15 PM

We have 6 cell phones (only 2 are smart phones) and 4 are available for upgrade. But until they come up with a family data plan OR my boys are out on their own and off our dime (which is probably what will happen first!), I don't see us upgrading right now, as much as I would like to. :(

Julie Billingsley 09-12-2012 09:18 PM

Mary, they have family data plans. My husband and I are going with Verizon and when my oldest son's contract is up with TMobile then he will be joining us on the plan.

edited--- okay, maybe my terminology is wrong. It's shared data, although it's $40 a phone.

We have ATT and the data plans are $30 a phone for 3GB of data each. Texting is $30 for all of us unlimited. So I'm looking for something like that to happen in the future. Buuuut...not holding my breath. :glare:

mlewis 09-12-2012 10:18 PM

I *just* got the 4s last week so I guess I'm stuck.

k23m 09-12-2012 10:19 PM

Our provider is offering the 4's for free right now, but I dont think I am due for upgrade until next summer. Maybe by then the 5 will be affordable for me to switch to! Right now I have a blackberry...and by next summer they could be toast! (or who knows...maybe they will come up with something amazing and save themselves!)

Amber1279 09-12-2012 11:26 PM

we have been waiting for this day! I still have an iphone 3.

Gemma 09-13-2012 01:31 AM

I got my 4S on release day last year so mine's up in July and no doubt there'll be something new in September time so I'll end up waiting a bit! :)

Edit - I do want a snazzy pink iPod touch though, even though I don't need one lol, they are just in time for kids Christmas presents, different colours so they can't fight!! :)

We have AT&T also and I'm switching from my Blackberry Torch to an iPhone in November. Cheyanne doesn't want an iPhone because she likes the sliding keyboard for texting and has her iPod Touch for everything else. I only have the $15 a month data plan now and have never come close to going over in a month... I'm hoping I won't need to go up to the $30 plan with the iPhone  I do wish AT&T would come out with a more reasonable data sharing plan though because I'd love to be able to put her Touch on it and the Kindle Fire we have also, especially where we'll be traveling so much next summer. It would be nice to have those devices tapped into internet while we're on the road.

Chels85 09-13-2012 04:58 AM

Enjoy Julie!

want iphone 5 but stuck with my 4s til may

newfiemountiewife 09-13-2012 06:14 AM

My 3 was on it's last legs, and I tried to hold out for the 5, but I ended up getting the 4S back in May I believe it was. I'm stuck with it now for awhile! I'm loving everything about it though, except my battery dies constantly! I do use it a lot, but my 3 had a much better battery life than my 4S.

neenee 09-13-2012 07:10 AM

We are going to wait until late October or early November when our 2 contracts are up and get the 5 for both Chunky and I. I too have never had a smartphone so this is very exciting for me!

I think the $30 plan is basic for iPhone almost positive there's not a cheaper one. It's the standard data plan for AT&T

Mary check back into AT&T. We have 4 iPhones and have a family plan with AT&T. We were grandfathered in with unlimited data and texting not sure if that makes a difference but they do have a shared plan

If you're within 30 days, you can return it and get the 5 instead. I had the same thing happen to me with the 3G and 3GS. That was on AT&T, I don't know if its the same for Verizon.

Well that sucks - LOL. I was hoping to keep the $15 a month with the iPhone when I upgrade. Since I work from home most of the time I'm connected with my wifi and don't need to use AT&T to go online, so the smaller data plan works for me :glare:

SweetMelissa 09-13-2012 08:09 AM

I just got my 4 two month ago and the hubs already said I have to keep this phone for a year before I even think about getting a new one. I will say that I am very happy with my 4 so far and not really interested in getting a 5 (right now). I also through haven't really looked at the 5 yet because I know I can't afford it.

We're with AT&T and my DH and I both have just the $15/mo data on our iPhones so you can have the lower plan with iPhones. It's the 200MB plan which is plenty for us right now, I'm home all day too so I use our wifi most of the time and Rob teaches so he can't be on his phone during the day anyway.

Really? Can I ask what you pay for a family plan? You know, sometimes when you are in an actual store they have offers that aren't readily seen online. So I will definitely find out. That's really what has been stopping me - the monthly fee, not the initial cost of the phone.

Also, our lower option for data is $20. I wonder why there are such discrepancies?

for 700 shared/rollover voice minutes it's 69.99 for 2 phones then 9.99 for additional lines so it's about 90.00 and that includes unlimited data for us since we had the plans before they went away with unlimited and were grandfathered in. That's unlimited nights/weekends and unlimited mobile to mobile...which we all have AT&T including most of mine and my husband's family so we hardly use our minutes. We have a few other things on our plan so my bill is about $110/month

look at the specs for it though...$20 for 300mb! and it's $20 for each 300MB overage. You can get 3 GB for $30. You need at least 5GB for mobile hotspot tethering if that's ever something you want to do. I've never done it b/c I heard it affects your unlimited so I've been scared to try it.

I think the $20 plan is the old $15 plan..I didn't realize you could get that one with the iPhones

maryinaz 09-13-2012 09:51 AM

I just looked at my son's data usage and he goes over the 300MB which is why he has the 3G plan.

Sounds like you might have gotten a special deal when you started. We have 5 phones on one plan (since that's all you can have) with 700 minutes, but we also have 4 more phones, unlimited texting for all of us, and one data plan so our bill is around $190. Ugh. And that's why I don't want to add any more $30 data plans.

One thing we do have is free mobile to any mobile, no matter the carrier. It used to just be ATT (which most of my family has), but last time we upgraded a phone, they gave us free to any mobile. So we never use those 700 minutes and have so many rollover minutes that each month we have some expiring.

At a very minimum Verizon offers a price adjustment within 14 days. When we were in the store a couple of weeks ago, the first thing the associate told us was that she preferred that we came back to get our iPhones after the release, but she did tell us we could get a price adjustment if we returned to the store within 14 days. It's worth a try!

navaja77 09-13-2012 11:25 AM

I have a Samsung Android and not eligible for upgrade til January. I might consider the 4 if its still at a good price then. :)

Jennilyn 09-13-2012 11:36 AM

I like the size of my 4S, plus I just got it in April anyway, so I'm glad I'm not even having to think about upgrading for a few years!

ayaandjudah 09-13-2012 11:36 AM

I thought Verizon no longer did free upgrades.....will I have to pay 600$ for one?
