I just finished reading The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. I thought is was an excellent book, although it's pretty sad.

I read a lot of pregnancy and parenting books this year, not a lot of fiction. But, of the books I read The Wonder Weeks and Nurture Shock are at the top of my list. I’m children’s books, I love B is for Bedtime, and I Love You Animally :p

noteworthy books from 2017:
I read the trio of March graphic novels by John Lewis with my 11 year old son and found them to be such a terrific way to experience the Biography genre for middle age/teen readers. We both loved them and I especially loved the dialogue the series inspired within him. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/17346698.jpghttps://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/22487952.jpghttps://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/29436571.jpg Favorite Mystery of the year: https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/33024254.jpg Favorite Fantasy of the year: https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/25489134.jpg Favorite Fiction of the year: https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/31434883.jpg ETA... Currently Reading: https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/10425811.jpg I read about half as much as I normally do in 2017. I was shocked to discover looking back through my list, that I hadn't read any Historical Fiction titles all year - which must be a first for me!! I'm hoping to read about 65 titles in 2018. |
Here are a couple of my faves...
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg This one was soooo great! Set in Iceland about the last woman executed there for murder. Did she do it? Did she not? Awesome historical fictionalized account of a real crime. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg Love Douglas Preston's non-fiction books (Monster of Florence was excellent too) This one was perfection in terms of archaeological adventure. Soooo good! https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg The Southern Reach Triology is being made into a movie with Natalie Portman but I read the series before all of that. Super weird sci-fi that will leave you scratching your head because of the bizarre stuff happening, but overall, immediately readable and captivating. Also currently working on... https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg Don't want to give any spoilers, but this is not at all what I was expecting and it's super interesting and fantastical. |
The Southern Reach Triology has been on my to-beead list for more than a year now... might have to make the plunge this year!

I don't know if I read a single book in 2017. Sad. 2017 was not my favourite year for so many reasons but I already have a nice stack of books I'm planning on for this year!

I know I'm probably late to the game on this one (no pun intended) , but my favorite book of the year was definitely Ready Player One. I listened to a lot of it in the car (Wil Wheaton narrated) and it was fabulous.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4691/...03185529_o.jpg I also loved the third book in The Great Library series: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4733/...d8292251_o.jpg And I finished The Others (which is one of the best series I have read in a loooong time): https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4693/...46ed5027_o.jpg I completed my (non workelated) reading challenge of 52 books, but just barely. I set the same goal this year and am hoping to come in above it. :) |
I stalled on book 3 of The Others [I loved the first book]... I should pick this series back up.

I always loved that there were so many other book lovers here :) Here are a couple of my favorites from this year. They were all awesome.
These three were dystopian https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/29806086.jpg https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/32796255.jpg https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg these two were thriller/mystery/horror... something like that lol https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....4,203,200_.jpg https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....18bwFzbYHL.jpg |
This was my favorite book of 2017:
https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/35240074.jpg At Home in this Life is about embracing the life you have instead of wishing you had a different life, and it really hit me where I was at this year. Before We Were Yours was my favorite fiction: https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/32148570.jpg Also, I read the Hunger Games Trilogy for the fourth time, and man, I love those books! |
Thanks, I've added a bunch of these to my toead list.
Some of my favorites from this year... https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/25817074.jpg Read this one with my son and we both found it sweet, funny and poignant. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/22749539.jpg Gorgeously compelling interlinking tales connected by music. Highly recommend doing the audiobook on this one. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/32075671.jpg Hard topics, important topics. Read this one with my soon-to-be teenager and we were both deeply connected to the characters. It also proved to be a good jumping off point for discussing contemporary social justice issues. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/31443394.jpg This one is darker than Backman's other books, but I still loved it. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...2l/1268479.jpg https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1...l/27071490.jpg |
