I don't organize by theme....but

maybe break down the misc by moods or emotion...like sounds like maybe those are the everyday general kits so what about like
Happy
sad
kinda separation?

I don't know. I organize by store and then by designer and use Bridge to view all the previews at a glance

Kimberly27 06-26-2021 10:42 PM

I use a program from Bianca I think...so they are all tag by designer, store, and themed elements...I love it bc I can search rainbow and all those kits will pop up...took forever to organize.

I will look at the feelings idea..... :) Thanks

rach3975 06-27-2021 12:27 AM

I'd start by looking through your miscellaneous folder and seeing what commonalities you find. Good luck!

nesser1981 06-27-2021 12:22 PM

I do mine a little different

I do Holidays with all those.
-Birthdays
-Christmas
-St. Patty's
-4th of July
-Halloween
-NYE
-Easter

Seasons
-Spring
-Fall
-Summer
-Winter

Then I do themes
-Beach/Ocean/Water
-Disney
-School
-Etc

I could find exactly what I have, but that usually helps break mine down a lot.

I just broke my travel folder up into USA Travel, Travel general and International Travel...it had gotten HUGE. My Animal folder is big too and may need help LOL I think I have well over 800 kits in my stash. :)

I've also started doing mine by year I purchased the kit. It helps when I decide to start culling my stash.

Like Christmas I have those Christmas then Christmas 2020, Christmas 2019, etc. Once they're about 6 years old, I don't use them anymore and those get purged. That's something I just started to do in the last few years though.

jaye 06-27-2021 07:50 PM

I do store-designer but have often thought I need a better system. I spend lots of time searching or forgetting I have kits.

Sherri Tierney 06-27-2021 08:34 PM

I have mine broken up into quite a few categories.

I have:
All About Me
Amusement Park, Circus, Fair

Country, Farm
Health and Fitness
Dream/Star Kits
Easter
Fall
Family - Heritage
Food and Drink
Friendship
Gamer, Geeks, Social Media (technology related stuff)
Garden, Generic Floral kits
Generic Kits (non themed)
Girl Power
Graduation - New Life
Growing Up - Tween and Beyond
Halloween
Hobbies
Life - Exciting, Funny, Crazy, Extraordinary
Life - Fresh Starts, Positive Outlook (Fight Song Vibe)
Life - Good
Life - Mundane, Ordinary, Everyday
Life - Sad, Grieving, Brokenhearted, Emotional
Love, Romance, Wedding
Media - Movies, TV
Money and Shopping
Motherhood- Parenthood
Music
New Year's Eve

Toys and Games
Travel - Transportation
Valentine
Weather
Winter

Now that I type it out I see a few that can be combined. I'll have to see about doing that as I was working on my hard drive anyway. I also have broad categories for alphabets, calendars, clusters, doodles, element packs, frames, journal cards, mini kits, paper and felt piecings, paper packs, photo masks, printables, quick pages, silhouette cutting files, stacked papers, stamps/brushes/styles, word art, and templates. Some of these have loose elements that I saved from kits I deleted years ago. I realized I was keeping lots of OLD kits because I liked a couple of elements from them. I decided to keep what I liked from those and move them into those folders instead of keeping them as full kits. To be honest though, of those broad categories I really only use templates and mini kits. Go figure. I might end up getting rid of even more things now that I've had that realization.

knittingbec 06-28-2021 01:07 AM

I copy & paste the kit previews into the following folders (that way I can put them in more than one if I want to)

Caroline (my daughter)
Disney
Events (birthdays, loose tooth, berry picking, etc.)
Everyday Life (mostly where I look for my PL pages)
Inner Work
Kids
Liam (my son)
People (extended family & friends)
Places
--- Camping & Nature
--- Travel Destinations
Rebecca & David (me & my husband, for us individually & as a couple)
Seasons- Fall
--- Halloween
Seasons- Spring
Seasons- Summer
Seasons- Winter
--- Christmas

My 'fullest' folder is Everyday Life.

aussiegirl 06-28-2021 01:24 PM

Maybe look through the miscellaneous folder and see if there are any reoccurring themes there. If you find a few that seem to go together, create a new folder of that theme!

I have my Disney kits by theme, but just started putting my regular kits by theme too. I have some broken down more than what others would do.

I have a nature/camping/outdoor/hiking, that I could probably break down more. I also have beach/cruise, then a pool/waterpark.

I feel I need to break more kits up by themes though. May have to use some of yours to make my own! :)

I've broken my animals up into Birds, Aquatic, Land, and Dogs and Cats because I have a lot of dogs and cats. :)

tjscraps 06-28-2021 09:37 PM

I split my Misc. by colour theme - Bright, Muted/Pastel, Girly, Boyish ... There's over 100 kits in each of those lol I should probably split them more

LeeAndra 06-28-2021 10:51 PM

Mine are organized like this in ACDSee so I can tag kits in multiple categories. I tag just the kit preview in a kit unless I know I would use the alpha or some of the elements separately from the kit. I know how I scrap which is why some of the categories are broken down into unusually specific ways e.g. I have "Monkey" and "Moose" in my "Animals" category because my kids' nicknames are Monkey and Moose but not in others e.g. my elements breakdown only includes stitching and not any other type of fastener.

how do you tag your items for easy searches? I need to do some serious organization of my digi stash, lol. I see LeeAndra uses ACDSee, which version do you use? I went to their website and there are quite a few programs. I have often wondered about using LR but I have a love/hate relationship with it, lol.

Biancka’s husband created a program just for categorizing kits. It’s called Digiscrap Catalog. There is a group on Facebook where you can learn all about it, how to use it and a link to download it.
I haven’t made the jump to use it yet because it would take me forever to organize everything but I think it would be a really great tool.

Thank you Lea! I just sent in a request to check it out. I hear you on the taking forever to organize. It may be a good reason to get in and purge for me though. That being said, there are some of my old retired designers shoes stuff I just bear to get rid of. Not because I will use it again but nostalgic reasons. An example is Ellie Lash, I loved her stuff and had the opportunity to work with her at two stores as a site team member and also as a CTM.

One of the good things about just starting over after a 10+ year break is it has made me get rid of all my old kits and 99% of the freebies I picked up along the way. I am on a buying spree now to get more up to date kits which has been fun.

I have folder categories like those listed above and then each kit inside the folder and then in each kit folder I have the preview file and a folder for elements, papers and alphas. No matter how the designers sort their files I only use these three folders. It makes it less cluttered for me.

It looks like this:

Category ---> Kits ----> Kit Name---> Preview, Element folder, Paper Folder, Alpha Folder

I also have just created a spreadsheet by stores I shop of each kit I purchase and who the designer is so I can keep track and if I can quickly look and see if I have already purchased it.

Each store I shop has a spreadsheet with columns for kits, columns for templates and columns for other. the column headers are Kit Name, Type of kit (ie kit, template, styles, etc), Creators name, More info (I usually just write if it was a free kit) and the store name

Seems like overkill but I have repurchased kits a few times in the old days and really don't want to do that again :)

I still have her stuff too. Not because I ever worked with her, but because I like it. :p

I repurchase supplies more often than I would like to admit.

I started out as a fan and customer then was asked to join her team. I was with her until she retired and then when she came back until she retired for good. She was such a sweetheart.

There are quite a few 'old' designers whose product I struggle to delete for sentimental reasons. I have stuff from Ellie as well. There are some former designers from here whose stuff I have trouble letting go like Krystal Hartley and Libby Pritchett. I look at their kids and see layouts in my head so I know I'll use them some day!

I agree with other that it seems like it might be the emotion/abstract idea kits that are cluttering up you Misc folder. Here are my folders for those kind of kits:

Change
Currently and Lists
Dreams and Goals
Everyday Life
Good Days and Happiness
Growing Up
Individuality and Self-Esteem
Me Time & Relaxation
Moods (this one's got kits about moods in general, not specific moods)
Silliness and Smiles
Tough Times

I hope this helps!
