What are you reading?

I just read the Fifty shades series and was just kinda ...meh... about it. I'd love to find somethign new to read, thinking something feel goody like a Nicholas Sparks style lol

So what are you reading? Enable me please!

Stacey42 05-28-2012 10:04 AM

I'm rereading Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich. It's a new series, the next book is Wicked Business & comes out June 19th. It's silly & funny.

I'm also reading Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel for a review purposes. Its fiction about the fall of Anne Boleyn, focusing on Thomas Cromwell & his roll. Not feel good but very very interesting & compelling.

Julie Billingsley 05-28-2012 10:14 AM

I was trying to read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I've never seen the movie, so this was going to be new for me. Anyway, I thought the story died out about 2/3 into the book, and I wasn't really loving it before that. So in a very uncharacteristic move, I decided to not finish the book. Has anyone read the book and tell me it gets better?

Then Amazon had The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks on sale one day as a daily deal. So I got it. I liked the idea of a story about a single mom with a son with a severe speech delay. I'm not sure if I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan. I did finish it, but I only was meh about it. The only book I've read by Nicholas Sparks that I truly liked was The Lucky One.

Then I heard good things about On The Island. I just finished it and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was very different and days later I'm still thinking about the book. Take a look at the reviews of it, it has over 900 reviews and it's ranked at 4.5 stars.

I'd love to hear other's recent reads so I can add to my wish list! :)

litabells 05-28-2012 10:24 AM

Thanks for these ladies! I hadn't hard of most that yo umentioned julie, so will definitely check them out.

I was recently recommended to read about the Mitford sisters...but I've never heard of them lol Can anyone enlighten me?

emmasmommy 05-28-2012 10:43 AM

i'm reading the mortal instruments series
so good. :)

tanyiadeskins 05-28-2012 10:52 AM

I am reading Devices and Desires, the Engineer Trilogy by KJ Parker. I was meh about 50 shades too btw.

heathergw 05-28-2012 11:31 AM

I'm struggling through the 50 shades series LOL... I'm on the 2nd book and keep hoping it gets better, sigh...

thinking I might ditch them and start something else... but I'm told it gets better, so I'm plugging through.

Mari Koegelenberg 05-28-2012 12:42 PM

Delirium and Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver...I cried for days after the book ended, it just resonated with me so much. It is so beautiful. Her words and the way she describes things...LOVE LOVE!

tettletop20 05-28-2012 12:49 PM

I second the On the Island book by Tracey Garvis-Graves. In fact, it was my first book after Fifty Shades and I really enjoyed it.

The Cinderalla Society by Kay Cassiday is another one I really liked. It's Young Adult but has romance in it and a great message! I gave it 4+ stars!

And for a kind of different story I read The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker. Very sweet and unexpected. Definitely recommend it!

Shawna 05-28-2012 01:08 PM

I just started reading Born of Silence, the newest book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's League series.

DogwoodMama 05-28-2012 04:53 PM

I'm finishing up Shanghai Girls by Lisa See... I think I want to start the sequel Dreams of Joy ASAP, I have read it really picks up where Shanghai Girls stops on not a great note...

maryinaz 05-29-2012 12:31 AM

I just finished The Virgin of Small Plains - 4 stars :) . Are you all on Goodreads? It's where I find most of the books I read and I like seeing what others read and how they rate them.

Since I'm missing my siggy: goodreads.com/maryinaz

Milmomma 05-29-2012 08:38 AM

Me too, I'm 75% done now and loving it. It'll probably take me ages to find a book to read after it.

YepBrook 05-29-2012 12:30 PM

Just downloaded 3 new books to my kindle:
He Who Fears the Wolf (Inspector Sejer Mysteries) by Karin Fossum
On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves
The Lucky One by Nicolas Sparks

So far I am reading On the Island and loving it, but I read the samples from the other two books and I really look forward to reading them, too!

jk703 05-29-2012 08:48 PM

Thanks ladies... lots for me to check out to see what I want to read next. I just read The Bride Collector... it was through my library, and I enjoyed it! Definitely an author I'd look for again....

I'm off to look at the books you all mentioned! Especially the One the Island.... that sounds so interesting, and unlike anything I've read recently!

usaf_wife10 05-30-2012 10:05 AM

I'm reading the Southern Vampire Mysteries series. It's AMAZING. I've been finishing a book a day, but now my hubby won't let me buy another book until he gets paid again. :( It's the series that true blood (on HBO) comes from. I don't think it's anything like the books that have been recommended so far, but it's a really good series!

sczos911 05-30-2012 11:24 AM

I am reading Night Road by Kristin Hannah & I will have to say - it is my favorite of hers so far & I've read a lot of K. Hannah.

I just finished Something Blue by Emily Giffin It is second in a series - Read something Borrowed First.

50 Shades of Grey just came in at my Library for me. I am off to get that tonight. :)

Libby Pritchett 05-30-2012 11:34 AM

I'm on book 3 of the Fifty Shades series. Ready for it to be over. LOL

I'm taking a break from reading for the next few weeks while the kids are here for the summer. Too much other stuff going on.

Night Road is my favorite KH book and I too have read a lot of her books!

DoodleBop 06-25-2012 12:25 PM

I just started reading the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. I have almost finished the 1st book and I have to say it was way better than I had anticipated. I think I am going to like this series!

sarahbhb 06-25-2012 12:43 PM

I'm reading two books right now.

Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer is a YA book the first of a trilogy called The Last Survivors (the moon is hit by an astroid and tilted...messes with tides and causes major catastrophe)...I'm enjoying it but not quite halfway through.
I'm also reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and other concerns) by Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapor on The Office). It's just a fun little autobiographical read...I just started today and am only about 30 or so pages in though.

LoriJ 06-25-2012 07:16 PM

I just finished Game of Thrones tonight and although I really liked it, it took me a long time to get through it. I have now moved on to something light and fluffy to cleanse the palate! I have just started reading Stargirl. I am hoping it is going to be good.

juliem888 06-26-2012 09:31 AM

OMG!!! I just finished reading on the island.. In one sitting!!!! I'm going to pay for this tomorrow..oh shoot just looked at the clock!! I mean today....awesome story...

maryinaz 06-26-2012 01:11 PM

I just finished Divergent and am now reading Insurgent. Love them!

Libby Pritchett 06-26-2012 01:28 PM

I just read The Ideal Man by Julie Garwood. Hadn't planned on reading much this summer, but this was available from the library (I'd been on the waiting list). So, I decided to read it quickly. It was really good! Just a super easy quick somewhat suspenseful read. Nothing too heavy.

Julie Billingsley 06-26-2012 03:51 PM

I just finished Outlander and it was only meh. It was more historical fiction than a romance. I read the first couple chapters to the next book and didn't find it compelling at all. I won't be continuing the series.

AmberK 06-26-2012 10:40 PM

Im reading 11th Hour by James Patterson (The Women's Murder Club series)

Next up will be Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich. Love the Stephanie Plum series!

webseitler 06-27-2012 10:44 AM

I'm reading The Girl Who Played With Fire and so far... it's dry and boring. I did like reading the detailed shopping trip to IKEA. It made me laugh because I could picture most of the items that were mentioned. :)

I really have enjoyed this series! I'm waiting for the 5th book at the library. Have you read any of the Infernal Devices? I almost like those better.

Elsie 06-30-2012 12:53 AM

I'm currently reading Players by Karen Swan, I needed something light and easygoing after some of the heavier books I've read recently.

I recently read 'Call Me Elizabeth: Wife, Mother, Escort" by Dawn Annandale. I found it in DH's vast book collection, he'd acquired it somewhere along the line and never read it. I've never had a book make me feel so many different things for the author, shock, admiration, pity and even partly disgusted at some points. I couldn't put it down.

Some others I've read recently and highly recommend are 'Amelia Dyer - Angel Maker' which is about the most prolific baby farm murderer in the UK, back in the 1800s. Shocking, terrifying, heart wrenching and fascinating. Not for the faint hearted though.

"I Capture The Castle" by Dodie Smith is a vintage classic, it's a beautiful story, it had me hooked and I was sad when the story ended.

farrijc 07-01-2012 12:27 AM

I read and enjoyed both On the Island and the Lucky One. I also recently read Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park and would definitely recommend it. A Gentle Rain by Deborah Smith was good, too.

nun69 07-02-2012 08:50 PM

I am still trying to read the next to the last Harry Potter Book and Hunger Games!

melmos75 07-05-2012 01:03 PM

I am currently rereading SLAMMED by Colleen Hoover. One of my most absolute favorite books and the first for me to ever reread. I highly recommend it!

I just finished this one and started a Lisa Jackson novel. For the life of me, I can't remember the name, but it brings back characters from her previous novels set in Grizzly Falls. I love a good murder mystery / physcological thriller! :)

tsbegley 07-11-2012 08:30 PM

I just finished books 1 and 2 in the Wilderness series by Sara Donati. It's historical fiction, much like the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon but not quite so wordy. Excellent details!

Another good one I finished right before this was Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. I was so sad when the story was over!

And one more good one is Legacy by Susan Kay. By far the best novel I've ever read about Elizabeth I.

maryinaz 07-12-2012 10:45 AM

I just finished The Winter Sea too - really enjoyed it!

Now I'm reading The Pilot's Wife.

MissKim 07-12-2012 11:00 AM

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Thriller. Don't want to put it down. Really, really good.

I just finished it! Great! Not excited about waiting 2 years for the 6th book!

Have you read any of the Infernal Devices series?

dagi 07-21-2012 08:38 AM

I've been reading We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver at the moment..

LJSDesigns 07-21-2012 12:57 PM

I am reading one by Faye Kellerman, The Forgotten. It is part of the Decker/Rina series, of which I have read a number and really enjoy.

I am jotting down the titles mentioned here to check into after I finish. I only download one book at a time to my kindle. ;)

xNicolex 07-22-2012 05:17 PM

Thirst No. 3: The Eternal Dawn by Christopher Pike This vampire series totally rocks!!

*Celeste* 07-22-2012 07:24 PM

just finished...

into the wilderness by sara donati

and read the blogess's book which was hysterical!

maryinaz 07-23-2012 01:18 PM

I'm currently reading Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
(Graceling Realm, #3)

This series is really different from anything else I've read. Definitely fantasy, and I completely take it as that and don't try to fit it into my beliefs.

I started this the other day, and although it took me a good few chapters to really get into it, I am hooked now. I cannot wait to find out what is going on.

I LOOVED this series! Emily Giffin is one of my fave authors. Her books are just a fun, easy read for me. She has a new book, Where We Belong, that just came out, and I'm dying to read it!

I just finished Folly Beach by Dorothea Benton Frank. I love her books because they're all primarily set in the SC Lowcountry, and it's fun to read about actual places I'm familiar with and have visited.

I also just finished Sarah's Key. Some friends and I have decided to start a book club locally, and this was our first selection. I'm really glad I read it because it's not something I would've probably chosen on my own, but I really enjoyed it.

lmjrocko 07-29-2012 12:58 AM

I'm really enjoying A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

Brandy 07-29-2012 01:58 AM

I just finished Water For Elephants and am starting Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

LJSDesigns 07-29-2012 09:49 AM

I just started War Brides by Helen Bryan. Finding it hard to put down already.
