Unzipping Kits

I bought a few kits during this week's Oldies but Goodies sale and as I checked out, got the message that I already owned Flerg's beautiful Free w/ $10 Purchase kit of Wish Upon a Star. Pretty sure I hadn't downloaded it … but with as crazy as my work life has been, I thought perhaps I'd just forgot that I'd done so.

I looked back at my order history for the month and I had purchased 6 kits and not unzipped any of them to my computer! WOW! So now as I'm unzipping the beautiful kits, it feels like a Christmas surprise! LOL!

Do you move kits to your PC as soon as you purchase them?

Leablahblah 03-11-2020 08:25 PM

Yes I do! Because I hate having a bunch of unzipped files in my download folder. I try to keep it clean. lol one area in my life can be organized!

Mine typically sit there for a little bit before I unzip them. I organize and name the folders in a specific way, so I don't unzip until I have time to do that.

I download them immediately and try to unzip them too, but it may not happen as fast.

aussiegirl 03-11-2020 09:36 PM

I download and unzip right away. Otherwise I would forget! I like to play with my goodies right away, or at least look through them right away and get page ideas!

KingsQueen82 03-11-2020 09:39 PM

I download right away (my Mac automatically unzips for me) but many times they sit in my download folder for weeks! I try to keep up but I'm not the best at it! Life seems to be a blur these days and never enough time for anything!

I usually download them right away, unzip them & organize them. Probably takes about 5-10 minutes per kit downloaded - I enjoy it - my guilty pleasure - haha. I try to back them up immediately too. I've had too many EHDs die to trust all my digiscrapping files to one drive.

I download and unzip right away. I used to start unzipping when I was still downloading, but now I have pretty fast internet so I just download everything first, then count the number of zips to make sure I have them all, then unzip, rename as needed, and transfer to my SB folder. As soon as it goes into my documents, the cloud kicks in and backs it up right away. I enjoy the process!

I usually download and unzip right away.... I'm always afraid if I don't do it that way, I will forget!

biancka 03-12-2020 07:39 AM

Yes, I do otherwise I might forget and I'll get the same message in the store as you :) It is a nice surprise to find out you already bought a kit you wanted to buy and can I say that I am really happy that SSD has that feature otherwise I would've bought a few bundles multiple times for sure.

jaye 03-12-2020 08:44 AM

it depends, if I am shopping at work or from my phone then I download when I get home later in the evening. If I am shopping from my laptop then I download right away.

kendallt 03-12-2020 09:37 AM

I usually do so that I don't forget!

Gemma 03-13-2020 01:26 PM

I usually download and unzip ASAP but sometimes I go shopping on my phone and then have to try and remember to download when I put the laptop on :D

crazsquaw 03-13-2020 03:40 PM

I download to my computer and unzip...I have learned the hard way, having gotten a few that had an issue.
When you buy at the checkout, it usually tells you if you have already purchased a kit. Which thank Goodness for that, because I have purchased a few more than once in my time as a scrapper LOL

craftytam 03-13-2020 06:04 PM

I used to always download & unzip right away. But, since I started on the project in October of getting my mom moved, I have a lot of products that are downloaded, but not unzipped. It's on my list of things to do when things calm down :p

Neverland Scraps 03-13-2020 10:37 PM

I try to download right away, but if I buy while out and about, late at night or on the fly, I sometimes forget until days, weeks and have been known to find them months later!

knittingbec 03-13-2020 10:54 PM

I have a list of kits purchased, and I check off when they're downloaded & unzipped. I usually check out at night & that's when our internet is extremely slow, so I put off downloading until a day that I have a chance in the morning.

lizziej 03-21-2020 09:40 AM

I am BAD about this! I rarely download and unzip right away. I have oodles and oodles of unzipped kits! I'm trying to get better about it.

Thank goodness that SSD store tells us if we've already purchased something, but I have found out that it only works if you buy the exact same thing. So if I bought a collection and then tried to buy just the kit, it would not tell me that I purchased it already.

Sherri Tierney 03-21-2020 11:07 AM

I often do NOT download things right away. Many times I will make purchases from my iPad and then wait to download when I open the laptop next. I've been known to wait to download from work (SUPER fast internet speeds, a full kit takes seconds) and then upload them to Google Drive. I realized it was great having them on Drive but then I had to download them to my laptop to scrap anyway since I wasn't scrapping from work like I thought I would (figured I'd do it on my lunch break). So, every so often I go back through old orders for the past few months just to make sure I've downloaded everything.

SeattleSheri 03-21-2020 11:42 AM

Yep, I immediately download. Like others on Macs, everything automatically unzips. Here is my process:

  • Download / unzip
  • Organize folders - I drop everything into the elements folder and consolidate if there are multiple folders for papers, etc
  • I rename embedded folders following this format _xxx so they are at the top
  • I add the kit preview and designer/store tags to the main folder
This process usually takes me 2-3 mins.

nun69 03-21-2020 01:03 PM

I download and then move the unzipped folders to my digi scrap folder and that way when I get the chance I just unzip when I can but they are in a safe place!
